About the Job

The Radio Operator manages the ICRC’s telecommunications equipment in the specified Radio room. S/he maintains radio contact and telecommunications between sites, vehicles and people so that the delegation can follow field movements in accordance with its programme and with security rules.

This is a resident/national position based in Mogadishu, Somalia.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Follows communication and transmission activity via telecommunications equipment such as telephone VHF/HF radios

Facilitates radio and telecommunication contacts and makes field follow-ups on all field trips according to internal guidelines

Proactively supports information flow on security-related issues

In charge of all the IT equipment found in the radio room

Operates the telephone switchboard when need arises

Follows up on all the dispatched mails/parcels until delivery at the planned destination

Monitors all the field trips in Mogadishu as per the field trip guidelines

Ensures that the field trip forms are completed, approved and dispatched to concerned structures

Communicates and keeps tab on all upcoming field trips

 

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

Secondary School certificate and vocational training in electronics, telecommunication or related field of study

2 years of experience as a radio operator in a busy environment

Excellent knowledge of the geographically assigned environment

Proactive with good planning assessment, organizational, coordination and communication skills

Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali languages

Ability to work under pressure

Pays attention to details

Proficiency in MS Office Suite
