Background

At Sahanbooks, our mission is to bring the benefits and pleasures of reading to everyone in Africa.

Sahanbooks recently opened a flagship bookshop in Hargeisa, Somaliland and aims to expand its retail presence across the country. Work is in progress to sell digital and print books at affordable prices through our online bookshop too. We are also setting up SahanPublishing, the new publishing arm of Sahanbooks, that will publish and distribute digital and print books in local languages.

The Role

Working with the team in London, the Regional Director, East Africa will lead our retail expansion to 10 further cities in Somaliland and direct day-to-day operations.

This is an exciting new role where you will have complete ownership of the retail expansion and daily operations of the stores. You will prioritise and rollout the set-up of bookshops, managing procurement and delivery, including design, shop fit, merchandising and customer service. You will hire, train and motivate staff to provide a consistent, customer-friendly experience at all our shops and work with publishers and wholesalers, as well as technology and logistics partners ,to ensure the shops are appropriately stocked.

The role would suit a well-organised generalist who has international experience, speaks Somali, is curious, is comfortable with early-stage ambiguity and who has an MBA or equivalent.
