Background

The Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is an independent, non-political humanitarian organization that was founded in April 1963 and was established with presidential decree No. 187 in 1965. It was then recognized by the ICRC in 1969 and in the same year became a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent societies.

 

Overall Job purpose

Provide technical leadership in the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a comprehensive youth and volunteer programme aimed at recruitment, training, retention and building capacity in leadership, team-work, community service, healthcare, first-aid and life-saving skills designed to effectively support implementation of SRCS activities with a strong focus on emergency and disaster risk reduction and response.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and coordination support in planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of youth and volunteer programmes.
  • Assist the branches in working with youth and in the recruitment of volunteers to establish Red Crescent Clubs in communities, schools, colleges and universities and in other youth organized groups.
  • Promote safety and security of volunteers at all times by working with the branches in line with Safer Access Framework to assist with mobilization, deployment of volunteers during emergencies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with strategic partners, and prepare funding proposals to maximize support and capacity development of SRCS youth and volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date volunteer database at the Coordination office and ensure that SRCS volunteers are properly structured and insured at all levels.
  • Develop, regularly update, and carry out volunteer training and workshops for volunteers to improve their understanding of the organization, and the role and responsibilities of volunteers as well as principles of the RCRC Movements, and maintain training records inducing training curriculum, training checklists, and manuals as necessary.
  • Monitor and review the state of youth and volunteer involvement with a view to improving their participation in the implementation of programme activities.
  • Plan and implement volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contribution of volunteers to the organization.
  • Prepare regular, timely and accurate reports on the status and achievements of programme activities in line with SRCS strategic objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the SRCS Senior Management.

Operations Management

  • Assist with event planning and implementation in support of youth and volunteer programmes
  • Maintain proper volunteer database and inventory of goods and equipment in line with control systems
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of capacity building programmes aimed at equipping and strengthening youth and volunteers to the promotion of SRCS reputation
  • Organize and facilitate youth knowledge exchange and entertainment programs aiming at building and encouraging friendship and solidarity amongst youth.
  • Participate and assist in the establishment of branch youth secretariat and the National youth committee
  • Assist in the organization of the Branch and National Youth Assembly as well as the activities and meetings of National youth committee.
  • Ensure that all new volunteers have received proper explanation of the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, SRCS code of conduct and signed the volunteer declaration form.
  • Assist the branches in ensuring that volunteer grievances, disputes and problems are properly and professionally addressed
  • Ensure that the all new volunteers receive SRCS volunteer dissemination packs immediately after recruitment

Partnerships/Relationships

  • Develop and enhance relationships with the organized youth and volunteer groups in the community
  • Represent the National Society at relevant meetings and workshops and other forums
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the SRCS Management

Educational qualifications and training

Education Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Business Administration, Community Developmental, Public Administration
Professional training Project Management; Monitoring and Evaluation, Volunteer management, HR Management

ü  Proficiency in computer office packages word, excel, power point.

Language ü  Proficiency in Somali and English languages
Relevant Experience Minimum 5 years relevant experience in a humanitarian or development organization as well as demonstrated experience working with youth and managing volunteers
