Purpose

This position will work to coordinate all agricultural  interventions in Melkadida. The incumbent will closely work with farmers cooperative of refugees and host communities in Melkadida

          

Typical Responsibilities – Key end Results of the Position: *

  • Preparing project implementation plans for all activities
  • Compile monthly and quarterly reports to ARRA and UNHCR at camp and ZOA Program manager.
  • Working with camp level UN, gov’t and other officials to ensure smooth implementation of agricultural related activities for refugees and host communities in and around Melkadida
  • Ensure technical quality and accuracy of ZOA agricultural related interventions for refugees and host communities in Melkadida
  • Conduct regular field visits to project sites to verify quality/progress of vegetable and horticulture production for refugees and host communities.
  • Build, maintain and strengthen relationships and linkages with local authorities, communities, NGOs, UN and other key stakeholders in the area of crop production
  • Follow-up and supports the preparation of reports for the concerned government offices and donors
  • Acquaint new agricultural technology & disseminate to the refugees and host communities
  • Performs other related tasks as required

Dealing with Problems:

The agronomist will work with the agricultural extension workers and  support staffs to provide guidance related to agronomy in Melkadida  level as well as will oversee agricultural activities in the camps there by  providing technical support and guidance.

Communications and Working Relationships:

 

The agronomist  will work with all relevant stakeholders, including UNHCR and ARRA and internal ZOA departments to ensure the smooth implementation of agricultural  related programming at Melkadida.

 

Job Requirement

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • The potential candidate for the post should have Bachelor degree from recognized Universities/Colleges in Horticulture or other closely related fields. Besides, s/he should have at least 5 years of demonstrable work experience in areas of Horticulture at community level.
  • NGO experience is highly preferred

 

Skills Specific to the Post

  • Commitment to the vision and mission of ZOA Relief |Hope| Recovery;
  • Excellent understanding of local context preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Ability to work in hardship conditions.
  • Knowledge of Somali language will be an asset

 Leadership Attitudes & Behaviors

Should be able to guide Livelihood staff under his/her direction to accomplish day-to-day activities
