Accountant – Baidoa, Somalia

Location: Baidoa

Job Summary:

The Accountant is responsible for fulfilling the financial requirements of 3 districts that include Diinsor, Hudur and Celberde. In particular, she/he ensures that all SOS financial procedures and requirements are implemented and adhered to.  In addition, s/he ensures that SOS Procurement procedures and policies are also adhered to. She/he will support SOS accountant based in Baidoa. The accountant is also responsible to work with other implementing partners for all financial related matters that include preparing funds requisitions for various project locations based on the work plans for both SOS Children’s Villages and other partner.

Report to: Finance Officer

Key Area of responsibility:

• Prepares payment vouchers, cheques & ensures that all invoices are paid promptly with all required support documents in order to protect the reputation of SOS Children’s Villages and donor requirement.
• Prepares and submits registers, together with all supporting receipts and vouchers, to the Finance Officer
• Administers the project payroll & submits the projected income and expense form and requests regular transfers to ensure sufficient running cost funds are received for the project.
• Manages all Dahabshiil cash accounts in the locations and ensures balances are reconciled with the update cashbooks at all times by preparing monthly bank reconciliations.
• Posts into the accounting system all monthly transactions within the set deadlines.
• Prepare funds requisitions for various project locations based on the work plans
• Assists the project coordinator in the preparation of the annual detailed budget of the project.
• Assist the project coordinator in preparation of the annual projected cash flow statement
• Prepares a variance report every quarter on expenditure and income and take corrective measures on the variances noted.
• Ensuring that all cash, cheque books and financial records are properly stored and safely secured at all times.
• Maintains filing system for finance department.
• Ensures that all necessary documentation is in place to facilitate the end of year financial audit, and ensures all financial records are properly filled and safely stored
• Ensures that all donor financial management and reporting are implemented accordingly
• Prepares and submits the donor reports to the Finance officer for all project locations depending on varying donor needs promptly according to timelines
• Updates the inventory and fixed asset register of the offices as assets are acquired.  Conducts annual inventory control audits.
