Job description
In Somalia, crop production in intensified production systems is gaining importance in view of population growth, overexploitation of natural resources and an increasing unreliable climate. In addition to surface runoff, groundwater is increasingly used to produce vegetables and fruits, that have so far been largely imported, in horticultural systems. The competitiveness of local producers suffers from little knowledge of crop production, poorly developed value chains and inadequate quality assurance. The project supports the structural change outlined above in the Togdheer and Nugaal regions, and aims to expand the supply of high-quality vegetables and fruits through sustainable local intensive production, optimized marketing and quality assurance systems.
Your tasks
- Advising on innovative approaches in the context of the development of sustainable intensive production systems for fruit and vegetables including the
- principles of Integrated Pest Management in drylands
- Professional coordination of consulting services of the national teams
- Consultation and coordination processes with partner ministries and partners
- Communication and coordination with other actors
- Professional support of national and international consultants as well as quality assurance of work results
- Monitoring of project activities to achieve project goals
- Collaborate in reporting and managing the budget
Your profile
- University degree in agriculture, horticulture, geography, environmental sciences or a comparable field of study
- Several years of relevant professional experience, preferably acquired abroad in East Africa and in development cooperation cuwqU9u Dgn9V6
- Several years of well-founded work experience in the field of rural development
- Work experience on production technologies in drylands
- Knowledge of GIZ’s internal tools and procedures
- High sensitivity, intercultural competence and the ability to work in a team
- Fluent in English; Knowledge of the German/Somali language is an advantage

This job is suited to a full or a part-time position.
The willingness for frequent business trips is required.
A prerequisite for the conclusion of the agreement is the lifting of the restrictions currently in force in the company on the possibilities for travel and business trips in order to contain the worldwide spread of the Covid-19 virus.
The willingness to work reciprocally abroad and in Germany is required.
