1. INTRODUCTION.

Salaam Development Center (SDC) is an independent, nonprofit and nongovernment organization provides project management services and research

• development solutions, in the thematic focus area of livelihoods and climate changes, social development, protection and good governance based in Garowe-Puntland- Somalia.

SDC formed by multi-disciplinary Somali Experts whose objective is about providing insightful and objective analysis on a broad range of social issues, including conflict dynamics, peacebuilding, droughts and other environmental and climate changes and resilience mechanisms safe-nets mainly for the Youth, women, IDPs and poor rural communities. SDC design and manage development and humanitarian

Projects and programs supporting remote rural communities and vulnerable groups in urban settlements.

SDC has a fully-fledged research department that tackles a broad range of social issues and studies. Mainly on good governance and democracy, economic and social development, project monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), best agricultural practices, climate change, innovative farming practices and water technology.

SDC has partnered with various international organizations, UN agencies, and local institutions to rolling out development programs and in designing and implementation of projects on community development and socio-economic transformation.

We also work closely with several consultants, including the business community, agronomists, economists, environmentalists, civil society and research firms. Their experiences, diversity, expertise, discipline and gender bring together an adequate capacity for change.

Our accomplishments are built on the following two pillars:

1. Excellent field operations covering the whole of Somalia; reputed with quality delivery and familiarity with local customs and international standards.
2. An experienced and multi-disciplinary team which is highly dedicated to excellence and able to achievement irrespective of the challenges in the region.

On compliance, SDC is fully registered with the Somalia federal government and Puntland state of Somalia, and we have our main office in Garowe and branches in Galkayo and Mogadishu.

SDC Experience and Implemented Projects

For decades, SDC Members and their partner have made remarkable progress delivering on SDC priorities. SDC has a good and cordial relation with all the government ministries including but not limited to Ministry of planning, ministry of interior and ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Climate change of Puntland and as well as other agencies including the local authority and administration, our close partnership and collaboration has enabled SDC to successfully implement its projects and programs, in addition, the local authorities and federal states have all good knowledge of SDC operations and its activities as a result of SDC’s interventions in their respective areas for several years.

Relief Project – Unconditional food assistance

SDC implemented Unconditional food assistance for relief project in Galkacyo, Harfo and Galdogob district in Mudug region on 2018-2021. The project was General food distribution – GFD through CBT and In-kind modalities, the main project activities was community consultations, beneficiary’s mobilization and sensitization, beneficiary’s selection process and registration, scope card distribution, top up and redemption report to WFP. Since 2018 up to 2021 SDC with WFP supported 100,000 beneficiaries from very vulnerable households of drought effected families living in IDPS Camps.

Livelihood Projects.

SDC partnered with WFP in successfully implementation of several livelihood projects in Mudug and Nugaal regions in Puntland, in 2018 up to 2020 SDC with the support of WFP established several community farmers cooperatives and agricultural demonstration sites in Puntland, the sites have been graded as successful and innovative through their integration into livelihood projects that have created sustainable asset for the venerable communities and strengthening of their livelihood and building resilience.

SDC selected specific sites in Mudug and Nugal region that we will work with them for a period of 10 years by investing in their livelihood including establishing farmer’s cooperatives as a way of pooling their meager resources together towards food security households.

TERMS OF REFFERENCE.

2. BACKGROUND

As, SDC We are looking for an experienced and qualified two agronomists who will examine problems and implement solutions for SDC beneficiaries in food production and farming activities within Nugal and Mudug regions (one in Nugal and another one in Mudug) In this role you will inspect, research, solve problems relating to crop management, crop quality and yield. You are also expected to develop tailored agronomic methods and supervise interventions on behalf of SDC.

In order to yield positive results in this role, you have a duty to be focused on developing and promoting better farming practices. As a plant expert you should be self- motivated, detail oriented and analytical with excellent listening, communication and problem solving skills.

3. RESPONSIBILITIES for AN AGRONOMISTs

• Developing better planting, cultivation, and harvesting techniques, improving crop yield, and solving problems for clients.
• Researching and promoting agricultural strategies to counter the effects of changes in soil, climate, weather, and pest damage.
• Visiting fields to collect seed, plant, and soil samples.
• Testing samples for nutritional deficiencies, diseases, or other changes.
• Assisting with the plant sourcing, testing, and selection.
• Keeping detailed records regarding fields, customers, crops, and samples.
• Generating reports and presenting findings to SDC and other project stakeholders.
• Conducting training on products and techniques through educational presentations.
• Managing teams of scientists while conducting field visits or laboratory work.
• Developing planting and irrigation schedules, budgets, and timelines.

4. Competences

• At least 5 years of work experience in Agronomist and relevant professionals such as knowledge of agricultural technology
• Knowledge of UN related work experience and administration procedures is an advantage.
• Ability to work under pressure with excellent analytical communication skill is a must
• Ability to produce high quality progress report is a must

5. Recruitment Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, agriculture, or a related field.
• Master degree in Agronomist pure is an added advantage
• Further education and experience may be preferred.
• Fluency in English and somali language
• Knowledge in usage of computers and office software packages (Ms. Word, Excel, PPT)
• Self-driven and motivated, able to work under minimum guidance
• Responsible and accountable responsive
• Exceptional active listening and verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong research, decision making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Awareness of industry trends, technology, and developments.
• Sales and presentation skills.

6. TIME FRAME.

The expected employment duration will be eight (8) months, with possibility contract extension subject to satisfactory performance. The agronomist will report to the program manager and work with the local community extensively.
