BACKGROUND

Lifeline Gedo (LLG) is national non-governmental humanitarian organization dedicated towards ensuring that local communities in Somalia are resilient and able to cope with perennial shocks that threaten their livelihoods year in year out. LLG engages in long-term development work, responds to emergency situations, and seeks to address the root causes of poverty.

Overall Supervision By Health and Nutrition Coordinator.
Remuneration Negotiable
Managerial Responsibility None.
Duration 12 months with possibility of extension.
Directly Reporting Staff : CHW /TBAs
2.       ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE
For increasing access to Health and Nutrition, Lifeline Gedo works in urban and remote villages in Gedo region through the provision of health and Nutrition services that include treatment of SAM, MAM, essential maternal and child health services in Partnership with ACF funded by GFFO.
Job Summary: 

 

In collaboration with the Team Leader, other nurses and the Qualified Midwife; the Auxiliary nurse will ensure to provide support in the provision of health services at the assigned locations in Elwak district. Take vital signs and keep records as appropriate. Screen and treat minor ailments in the absence of nurses and midwives. Refer the complex cases as early as possible. The successful candidate will be expected to visit each of the locations every week, spending the whole day at each location. The role is mainly to ensure   provision of essential primary health care services to beneficiaries, adhering to ethics of clinical practice, nursing care, MoH/WHO Somali Treatment Guidelines. (STGs)He/she will work with the CHW and the community at the respective  villages , mentoring them and providing them with On Job training to ensure there is consistent high quality  preventive and curative care for mothers, children and adults

Main Duties & 

Responsibilities:

 

ü  Interviewing patients to identify their needs and concerns (Greets and get files ready)ü  Provide/assists personal care to the patient

ü  Responsible for client registration and basic assessment:

ü  assists in registering clients

ü  measures and records basic vital signs, weight and height on health cards

ü  organizes waiting room

ü  Assists with treatments and procedures (including wound care, dressing and intramuscular injections)

ü  Checks immunizations status and provides (or refers for) vaccination as needed

ü  Assists with emergency procedures:

ü  recognizes shock, haemorrhage and coma

ü  Notifies nurse in charge or refer to the next level.

ü  provides basic first aid

ü  Supports active/passive movements

ü  Plans/implements and evaluates patients assigned by the nurse in charge

ü  Keeps, cleans and sterilizes equipment

ü  Carries out other assignments given by the duty nurse or in charge nurse in line with his/her job description

ü  Ensures patients understand prescribed treatment

ü  Dispenses standard medication as prescribed by doctor or nurse

ü  Any other tasks required by the line manager.

Qualifications Essential 

 

All applicants should be the resident of Elwak Somalia.ü  Diploma in Nursing (Preferable)

ü  Must have at least two years’ experience in the same position.

ü  Ability and willingness to work in the community

ü  Basic knowledge of signs and symptoms of diseases and the appropriate treatment

ü  Experience in assessing high risk conditions in women and providing delivery assistance (maternity clinic staff)

ü  Independently motivated and able to work without supervision

ü  Must possess problem solving abilities

ü  Ability to assist with community outreach activities

ü  Must possess training and social mobilization skills

ü  Ability to provide good client care (including confidentiality) regardless of any clan affiliation, economic or educational status

ü  Ability to work in a team including performing any other activities or duties in support of the services as delegated by their supervisor
