CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR

H.E DR. HASSAN SHEIKH MOHAMUD PRESIDENTIAL PhD SCHOLARSHIPS

 The Federal Government of Somalia received financial aid from Qatar Charity for the implementation of the Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Presidential PhD Scholarship. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education (MoECHE) is the supervising entity while the United Nations University for Peace (UPEACE) is the executing and Implementing agent.

The Purpose of this scholarship as outlined in the Vision of H.E President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud at eh UPEACE graduation on December 2nd, 2022, is to strengthen and improve advanced research and postgraduate academic capability of universities that are legally registered and operational in Somalia.

The second focus of the scholarship is to support government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that are serving the Higher Education in the country to be equipped with the same capacity mentioned above. The scholarship will also strictly cover limited seats to the agencies with twenty-five or more years of experience in Somalia Higher Education since state collapse.

To be eligible for this program, you should be a citizen of the Federal Republic of Somalia, acquired academic credentials from recognized academic institutions subject to verification and endorsement of the MoECHE.

Nomination letters from applicant’s respective University where he or she operates as a Rector or where they hold any respective leadership, academic or administrative roles.

All applicants from universities should submit their applications directly to Ministry of Education,Culture and Higher Education also the applicants from government MDAs should submit their applications to MoECHE.

Two reference letters and a consent form to be signed by both nominee and nominator confirming that there will be a total (100%) refund of the cost of the scholarship if the nominee fails to complete the program.

The application process will be a 2 stage process.

1. An expression of interest where the prospective student provides basic bio and contact information and their preference for the different PhD programs by ranking from 1-4. (link-Submit Expression of Interest form).
2. Following the receipt of the Expression of interest, the MoECHE with university (UPEACE) will respond immediately with an application form, course structure and student PhD manual which will explain all the above and much more information.

Programme Duration

The duration for the Doctor of Philosophy programs is thirty six (36) months.

Applications open from August 2^nd to 29^th, 2023.

Programme and Tuition Cost: Programme

PhD Programme Tuition Fee:

$20,000 (with limited partial discounts available and payable in 6 monthly instalments) and $1,500 Application and Admission fee.

NOTE; The HE Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Presidential PhD scholarship is a fully (100%) paid programme covering application fees, Tuition fees, Field research support and travel costs among others.
