Save the children has been working in Hiran since 1992 delivering multisector programs in WASH, Health, Nutrition, Education, Child Protection, Food security and livelihood, our geographic focus covers nine regions (Awdal, Bari, Nugal, Mudug, Galgadud, Bay, Bakool, Banadir, Hiiraan, Lower Juba regions in Somalia.

Training and Capacity building:

Below is the key training that save the children will deliver in 2021/2022

  1. Water management Committee
    • Defining the purpose of a Water Management Committee
  • Five hygiene domain concepts
  • Transmission of diarrheal diseases
  • Chronic Diarrhea How is the cause of chronic diarrhea diagnosed?
  • How is chronic diarrhea treated?
  1. Water user association and water source chlorinators
    • Temporary water distribution system
  • Component of Water Trucking,
  • Water storage families
  • Causes of Water related health problems
  • Conflicts Management, Types of Conflict and Their Causes
  • Water treatment procedures
  • Water chlorination and treatment techniques (Bulk, Shock and Batch)
  • Determining of required chlorine dose
  • Preparation of chemical doses (Mother problem, Jar test, Stock, Chart test and Mother solution)
  • Water quality parameters
  • Household Water Treatment and community level.
  1. Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
    • Define Disaster Risk Reduction and WASH concepts and methodology
  • Identify roles of various stakeholders in DRR/WASH activities
  • Demonstrate a capacity to perform Community Risk Assessment
  • Demonstrate planning skills for DRR/WASH
  • Form a base for dissemination of DRR/WASH practice
  • identify the four stages of a flood management programme
  • Identify hazard event warning signs; eg early warning system for critical and imminent threats to communities (floods and cholera outbreak)
  1. Hygiene promoter training
    • Introduction to basic communication skills
  • Role and responsibilities of Hygiene promoters
  • Hygiene promotion communication
  • Working with children
  • House to house visiting
  • Planning a hygiene promotion campaign
  • PHAST and CHAST training
  • How to protect Covid19

PURPOSE OF THE CONSULTANCY:

The purpose of the consultancy is to pre-determine capable and experienced Somali consultants who will facilitate the training supported by SCI.

EXPERTISE REQUIRED:

The following attributes are requirements for the selection of qualified consultant/facilitator:

  1. A minimum of University Degree in public health, Social work, community development or any related field
  2. Professional experience in facilitating workshops and developing materials for the workshops (minimum 3 years)
  3. Proving experience for the implementation of WASH projects and previous experience on staff mentoring (TOR on above relevant training topics)
  4. Strong facilitation skills and working knowledge in developing training manuals
  5. Knowledge on issues relating to child rights and human rights-based approach
  6. A good trainer who can use various adult learning techniques to deliver lessons
  7. A team player who can use participatory learning techniques in adult learning situation
  8. A strong commitment to transfer knowledge and skills to the clients
  9. Fluency in English oral and written, Somali language is mandatory.
  10. Very good command in written and spoken English, strongly reporting writing skills
  11. At least 3 years of experience in facilitating WASH related trainings.
  12. ToT in(water management training, hygiene promoters ,DRR training ,and water source chlorinators)

DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

The duration of this assignment will be allocated according to the budget and time after candidate selected and contracted.
