CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Company Summary:

Somtel Group: is the Telecommunications arm of Dahabshiil Group and one of the leading telecommunications players in Somalia and Somaliland. Somtel is company member under the Dahabshiil Group, the fastest growing business group with interests in finance, banking, telecommunications, real estate, and energy & power sectors among others. The Dahabshiil Group office, under the leadership of the Executive Vice Chairman plans to recruit Chief Financial Officer- Somtel who will be in charge of driving the overall financial coordination, investment strategy and achieve financial stability and revenue growth and develop people financial capabilities, enhance shareholder returns in all markets.

Position Summary:

As a key member of the Executive Management team, the Chief Financial Officer will report to the Chief Executive officer and assume a strategic role in the overall financial and investment management of the company in all three markets. Ensure Somtel’s financial stability and drive financial performance improvement, operational efficiency and effectiveness. Provide strategic, proactive and forward-looking financial plans aligned to organization’s strategic goals for growth & profitability. Support CEO on company related activities and decisions collaborating across both Corporate and Operational levels.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead Somtel’s overall financial strategy through planning, budgeting, corporate finance, accounting, treasury, and overall financial performance and controls
  2. Participate in major strategic discussions, providing recommendations and required key financial information to inform decision making process
  • Provide solid financial analysis and report to the Board of Directors in order to enable an effective target setting
  1. Carry out due diligence on corporate financial dealings and ensures the designated checks are carried out
  2. Evaluate financial performance of the company against planned financial goals to measure effectiveness of planning and implementation processes.
  3. Identify policy requirements for Finance ensuring a cohesive set of company policies and guidelines and financial risk mitigation strategies
  • Prepare budgets, financial and management reports as well as summaries and forecasts for future business growth
  • Set performance targets, and deploy measures to counter deviation, monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions, and minimizing the impact of variances.
  1. Ensure timely and correct production of financial data and budgeting process in compliance with international accounting standards
  2. consolidating the 3 markets of Somtel Reports of financial status by developing forecasts, reporting results, analyzing variances, and developing improvements
  3. Ensure an efficient Treasury operation including cash management and bank relationships
  • Create an effective Finance function directing overall financial performance, with clear KPIs and documented processes
  • Maximizes return on invested funds by evaluating identified investment opportunities and maintaining relationships with the investors and the Board.
  • Support the CEO Develop organization prospects by studying economic trends and revenue opportunities; projecting acquisition and expansion prospects; analyzing organization operations; identifying opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement; and accumulating capital to fund expansion
  1. Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives so as to identify their needs and seek full range of business solutions.
  • Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance and applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annually progress reports.
  • Conduct him/her both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Somtel Group and in no way jeopardize group commercial efforts.
  1. Assist in any other task or duty assigned by the Somtel CEO.

Reports Directly To: Somtel CEO

Functional Relationship With:Group Finance Director

Knowledge and Experience:

  1. BSc in Accounting or Financeis must. MBA/Msc Finance and Accountingfrom a reputable Universityis added advantage;
  2. Professional Finance and accounting certification (CIMA, CA, CPA, ACCA) is required.
  3. Minimum of 10 years of Financial Management experience, 5 years of which at a senior level is within a telecommunications environment;
  4. Extensive experience in telecom sector in large progressive companies, with essential experience in GSM
  5. High levels of personal credibility, professionalism and effective at board level, able to lead and manage through influence and persuasion;
  6. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential.
  7. Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  8. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation;
  9. Exposure to international business is a plus Demonstrated professional competence and success in organizational development and management and ability to lead in a fast-changing environment.
  10. Fluency in English and Somali languages (verbal and written communication)
  11. Multi-tasking and organizational, prioritization skills are necessary;
  12. Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members is required;
  13. Highly developed computers skills with strong familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and presentation, Quick book
  14. Candidate must be willing to travel and work in difficult conditions

Environmental Conditions

This position is based in Hargeisa, Somaliland and is unaccompanied. Travel within Somalia/Somaliland is required to support all Somaliland’s offices and group’s programs.
