JOB ADVERT FOR THE POSITION OF CHIEF ACCOUNTANT FOR SOMPOWER, HARGEISA SOMALILAND

ABOUT US.

Sompower was incorporated in 2016 by local investors after amalgamating over 39 standalone Electricity Service Providers who were scattered all over the city where each used to power certain segment of the city. The overall objective of the amalgamation was to increase the efficiency of service delivery to customers and to direct resource allocation and deployment from one centralized point. Since the establishment, the company grew in leaps and bounds by increasing its generation energy mix (as it has now hybrid system of Thermal and Solar) capacity, building New Transmission and Distribution networks, connecting more customers (both heavy and light users) to the network. This growth resulted in the improvement of the safety and quality of power delivered to the end users, drastic reduction of the frequent power outages and enhancement of the network reliability. The company is currently able to provide round-the -clock electricity to its customers without any hitches as the single point of failure has been completely eliminated by the introduction of series of redundant systems able to back up the main feeder lines. The tremendous growth of Sompower has hugely contributed to the Socio-Economic development of the country and betterment of many lives as 24/7 economy activities is no longer a mirage but a reality in the city and its environs. Being the largest Electricity Service Provider in the country means, the company is also one of the largest employers in the country.

To build on the achievements and successes witnessed since its establishment, the company recently launched its Strategic Plan (SP) for the next five years (2021-2025) which now will determine the next phase of our growth. In line with our Strategic Plan, the company intend to recruit a result oriented, highly motivated person to fill the exciting and challenging post of Chief Accountant who will be reporting to CFO of the company.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

• Maintains the general ledger and all related accounts with proper documentation and records of all company transactions; reviews entries to the general and subsidiary ledgers to assure accuracy and compliance with the company’s and established accounting principles; controls all changes to chart of accounts. Responsible for monthly and year-end closing of the general ledger including preparation of journal entries

• Responsible for maintaining computerized accounting system and takes daily backups.
• Stays current with developments, practice trends, and promulgations in the accounting profession; monitors accounting systems and recommends new or revised policies and procedures.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliation for all accounts; verifies accuracy of bank statements and resolve questions or problems with the consultation of the CFO; maintains integrity of cash balances and cash flow systems.
• Responsible for review and preparation of payroll records and processing of payroll checks and reports by outside payroll service.
• Maintains fixed asset records, determines depreciation terms/rates to apply to capitalized items.
• Assures protection for the assets of the business through internal control, internal auditing, and assuring proper insurance coverage
• Assist the CFO in coordinating the year-end financial audit requirement and preparing schedules and documents for independent (third-party) auditors.
• Ensure the implementation of accounting policies, coordination of systems and procedures, and the preparation of operating data and special reports as required, including interim and year-end financial statements. Maintains company’s system of accounts; keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.
• Establish, coordinate, and administer as an integral part of management, an adequate plan for the control of operations including, profit planning, programs for capital investing and financing, sales forecasts, expense budgets, and cost standards, together with necessary controls and procedures to effectuate the plan.
• In conjunction with the CFO coordinates, reviews, and endorses budget proposals and discusses proposed changes and significant changes
• Compares performance with operating plans and standards, and reports and interprets the results of operations to management.
• Provides for the control and editing of all company orders, to ensure conformity to established policies and procedures, and to facilitate data control and retrieval of records generated by these orders.

Qualification and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from reputable University (Master of

Finance is preferred)

• Professional accounting designation (CA, ACCA or CPA) is a strong advantage
• 7+ years’ experience in a senior accounting position
• Proficient in the use of accounting and financial software packages (QuickBooks, ERPs and billing systems)
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Exceptional time management and ability for problem solving
• Result driven personality eager to partner with upper management to organize, plan and achieve company financial goals
