NRC in Somalia
NRC has been active in Somalia since 2004 with four area offices in Kismayo, Mogadishu, Garowe and Hargeisa, providing protection and humanitarian assistance to refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees in Somaliland, Puntland, South Central and Jubbaland regions. NRC offers a comprehensive response for returnees and IDPs of high need, addressing their food security, livelihood, shelter, education, ICLA, and water, hygiene and sanitation needs and also responding to emergencies through NRC’s five core competencies; Shelter, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA).
Role and responsibilities
The purpose of the Case worker position is for the day-to-day management of the Child protection and Information Counselling and Legal assistance (ICLA) Projects in Galkacyo.
Generic Responsibilities;
Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
Implement delegated ICLA/Child protection project portfolio according to plan of action Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
Ensure proper filing of documents
Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist Promote and share ideas for technical improvement
Specific Responsibilities;
Assessment of needs of child protection clients, develop an action plan with clients and Implement the plan with clients.
Conduct direct and regular follow up of child protection survivors through home visits and based on survivors wishes and consent with collaboration with caseworkers.
Ensure proper documentation of reported child protection incidences through ICLA database CPIMS case intake, action, follow up and other case management forms appropriately.
Follow child protection guiding principles of respect, confidentiality, and safety/security and non- discrimination while providing services to children.
Monitor how the child protection referral pathway is working through making direct follow ups with other organizations that are providing services to survivors.
Work with schools, parents and community duty bearers in the community to identify child needs, interests and priorities as relevant to the context, adapt activities according to these to ensure activities offered are culturally appropriate and meet the needs of children.
In collaboration with local schools and NRC Case workers, camp leaders, volunteers/workers, conduct awareness raising activities on child protection and promoting available services to child.
Participate training child protection stakeholders training with collaboration project officer. Break down the annual work plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly plans
Monitor, evaluate and ensure that the project activities are consistent with plans, budget lines, NRC’s policy, and standards.
Ensure that ICLA HLP/child protection project activities are implemented in accordance with approved proposals, donor requirements, NRC policies, international standards and local customs.
Act as a focal point for needs assessments and beneficiary selection undertake regular field visits (as and when security allows) to conduct ICLA/child protection activities.
Participate HLP activities giving advice and information to clients on the processes involved, awareness sessions and managing local authorities’ capacity building programmes.
Support preparing and updating case management systems and database of cases.
Support in the preparation, update of, and mapping service providers in the area of responsibility.
Qualifications:
Diploma in social science, develop studies, psychosocial counselling or related field of study.
Minimum of 1 year relevant working experience in the field of child protection and humanitarian program. Experience from working as a case worker in child protection in a humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills Strong analysis skills (qualitative and qualitative) Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity
Good understanding of complex emergencies and crisis contexts Flexible and creative Strong organizational and logistical skills
Goal oriented with ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision. Ability and willingness to work and live in challenging conditions Excellent computer skills.
Duty Station: 4 positions based in Galkacyo
Duration and type of contract: short term contract (6months)
