Oxfam’s work in Somalia and Somaliland covers both humanitarian and development spheres, with most programming delivered in Hargeisa and eastern Somaliland, both directly and with partners. The humanitarian component focuses on delivery of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), food security (particularly cash grants) and protection, in response to persistent, intense drought that has decimated livelihoods – primarily pastoralism, and caused mass displacement. The development component focuses on women and youth empowerment, economic inclusion, influence in decision-making and access to justice, primarily through three multi-year programmes.

Job Purpose

The Project Assistant will support the establishment of a climate justice movement in Somalia /Somaliland with new and old partners and a wide and diverse group of stakeholders including academics, media, government, CSOs, students, activists, youth, and women led organizations.

The Program Assistant will support, and document correspondences works with others to ensure the effective implementation of 5-year climate justice and influencing project in Somalia – embedding clear power analysis and theories of change and delivering effective strategies for systemic change.

The Program Assistant is to also support and document correspondences of the program with relevant ministries and agencies of government, the private sector, regional, continental, and international organizations relevant to the effective coordination of project consortium partners in Somalia and other allies to achieve project aim. The role also has a substantial management responsibility for local CSOs and Project partners working with Oxfam and to support the Program Manager and Program Team with this information when required.
