About the Job.

The Social Environmental Agency (SEA) is a national non-profit and non-political organization established in 2017 by Somali intellectuals to address the needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), returnees, and vulnerable host communities in Somalia, particularly in Jubaland, South West State, and Bannadir Region. SEA operates its headquarters in Kismayo with sub-branch offices in Mogadishu, Baidoa, and Afmadow.

SEA’s interventions encompass various sectors including; Food Security and Livelihoods, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Health, Protection and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) issues, enabling effective engagement with communities, governments, donors in projects implementations.

Social Environmental Agency (SEA) is currently seeking a qualified Communication Officer who will base in Kismayo, with frequent travel to the field for regularly project implementation and technical support activities.    

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports communication related training and coaching for staff of field structures and other departments.
  • Develop and implement communication and visibility plans aligned with donor and organizational guidelines.
  • Ensure all visibility materials (banners, posters, reports, T-shirts, etc.) comply with donor branding requirements.
  • Promote the organization’s mission, vision, and programs through consistent messaging in all communication channels.
  • Manage branding and public image during events, project launches, and community outreach.
  • Organize press visits to project sites and coordinate interviews with project beneficiaries or management.
  • Monitor media coverage and prepare reports on public perception and visibility outcomes.
  • Document project achievements, success stories, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Capture high-quality photos and videos during field visits for communication and reporting purposes.
  • Produce creative materials such as newsletters, brochures, posters, and infographics.
  • Support the preparation of donor reports, proposals, and presentations by providing human-interest stories and visuals.
  • Manage the NGO’s social media pages (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) and update content regularly.
  • Develop engaging digital content, including posts, videos, and infographics highlighting project impact.
  • Track social media performance and audience engagement to guide content improvement.
  • Maintain and update the organization’s website with project updates, publications, and announcements.
  • Support planning and coordination of key events such as community dialogues, training, donor visits, and project launches.
  • Prepare communication materials (talking points, briefing notes, event programs) for workshops and ceremonies.
  • Support knowledge management by documenting field experiences and lessons learned for future programming.
  • Ensure communication respects cultural sensitivity, protection principles, and do-no-harm
  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all communication products.

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant field such as communication, media, or International Relations.
  • 2-3 Years work experience in public communication or related field operation.
  • Excellent communication. presentation, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Excellency planning and reporting skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali Language.
  • Computer proficiency especially MS office.
