Term of Reference Community Engagement Assistant
Duty stations: Baidoa/Hudur (Somalia);
Position: Community Engagement Assistant– Promoting Sustainable Peace, Reconciliation and Social Cohesion in Baidoa and Hudur districts, South West State of Somalia.
Reporting lines: Reports to the ANPPCANSOM Program Manager

ANPPCANSOM is Women and Child oriented local NGO that works in the Humanitarian and Development Sector and operates as a non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-partisan national institution. ANPPCANSOM Somalia is legal entity connected to the ANPPCAN Regional Office as one of the 28 ANPPCANS Chapters across the continent with principles policy directions aimed at effectively realizing its vision, mission and core values. The organization was founded by a team of Somali intellectuals who were concerned with the living condition of children and women in Somalia whose protective environment has been weakened more two decades of conflict resulting in the collapse of institutions at all levels. Hence, they decided to speak for and stand to support underprivileged groups. The institution is registered in Somalia (2008) as LNGO and has operational mandate in the country

Objective
The Community Engagement Assistant will be responsible for fostering community involvement, building relationships, and implementing programs to strengthen peace, reconciliation and social cohesion in Baidoa and Hudur districts in South West State, Somalia.

Key Responsibilities

Community Outreach and Relationship Building:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with local communities, leaders, and influential stakeholders in Baidoa and Hudur districts.
- Engage in regular dialogues and discussions to understand community needs, concerns, and perceptions related to violence.

Program Implementation and Facilitation:
- Implement community-centered peace, reconciliation and social cohesion initiatives and activities tailored to the specific needs.
- Facilitate workshops, awareness sessions, and community events aimed at promoting peace.

Mobilization and Participation:
- Mobilize community members to actively participate in peace, reconciliation and social cohesion programs and initiatives.
- Encourage and facilitate the involvement of diverse groups, including women, youth, religious leaders, and other influential figures.

Collaboration and Networking:
- Collaborate with local authorities, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to promote community resilience against violence.
- Identify opportunities for partnerships and collaboration to enhance peace, reconciliation and social cohesion efforts.

Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor the progress and impact of community engagement activities, collecting relevant data and feedback.
- Prepare regular reports detailing the effectiveness of community engagement strategies and activities.

Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (social sciences, business administration, peace-building, etc.) or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in community engagement or related fields, preferably in conflict-affected areas.
- Deep understanding of local cultures, dynamics, and social structures in Somalia, particularly in Southwest.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in diverse and challenging environments.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in Somali languages is highly advantageous.
