Organization background 

SBACO is abbreviated for Somali Birth Attendants Cooperative Organization that was established in Gal kayo city of Mudug region in 1994 by a group of health physicians and senior community development professionals. SBACO is a 25 years operational and active organization in Somalia and Somaliland.

SBACO is a national Women NGO with its Head Quarter in Galkaio Mudug Somalia that has an adequate organizational capacity and expertise to smoothly run its activities and smartly collaborate with its partner’s. SBACO have offices in Hargiesa, Galkacyo, Cadaado and Beletweyn.

SBACO Mandate is to improve the wellbeing of Somali women and children and alleviate threats against their rights through providing reproductive and maternal health, GBV, WASH, edult girls education, Livelihood/cash assistance and protection of human rights projects.

Qualification

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from recognized university in public health and diploma in relevant discipline.

Work Experience:

2+ experience of as midwives Years

Skills 

  • Cultural awareness
  • Communication Skills in local language
  • Organizational Behavior Skills
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet).
  • Excellent spoken and written English languages; and local language (Somali).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Give the necessary supervision, care, and advice to women during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period.
  • Provide full antenatal care, including screening tests in the hospital, community, and the home.
  • Provide counseling and advice before and after screening and tests.
  • Conduct deliveries on her own and care for the newborn infant.
  • Manage complications in pregnancy and childbirth, by the principles of basic emergency obstetric care.
  • Identify high-risk pregnancies and making referrals to doctors and other medical specialists.
  • Provide support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality, and neonatal death.
  • Provide primary care to women of productive age, by the Basic Package of Health Services.
  • Supervise the provision of primary health care within the community by female health workers.
  • Counsel and educate women, the family, and the community, in relevant areas of health and provide a program of parenthood preparation and complete preparation for childbirth including advice on hygiene and nutrition.
  • Help to decrease the maternal mortality rate and pregnancy-related sufferings
