We have responded to several humanitarian emergencies in South and Central Somalia by providing aid to the population affected by conflicts and natural crises with emergency relief, health care, nutrition services, clean water, and sustainable socio-economic programs in a multi-sectoral based approach. The Role

The Community Nutrition Worker (CHNW) is responsible for carrying out community mobilization and awareness building activities. He/she is expected to provide a high standard of promoting optimum health and preventive health care, thereby contributing to a safe, efficient, and effective service to patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure community mapping and mobilization through facilitating participation of all levels of people.
  • Arrange community meetings with elders’ community leaders and local stakeholders.
  • Provide support to Midwife to establish and function at Community Health Service Point.
  • Maintain collaboration with other health and nutrition programs in the area.
  • Assist to strengthen referral systems on material healthcare and nutrition.
  • Participate in meetings as requested by senior nutrition teams.
  • Establish Mothers’ Group and facilitate regular meeting with the mother groups;
  • Arrange Cooking Demonstration of Nutritious food for children;
  • Conduct Screening to identify SAM and MAM children;
  • Development of referral system for SAM and MAM children;
  • Establish a functioning mothers/caregiver’s club;
  • Any other tasks assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications & Experience Required Education

  • At least Diploma in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the same position.
  • Good organization and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Fluency in Somali required.
