Job Title: Data and Analysis Officer

Grade and Salary: A competitive INGO salary will be offered

Contract terms and hours: Fixed term; standard working week is 37.5 hours

Job purpose:

The Data and Analysis Officer will be responsible for data collection and analysis that will systematically and regularly collect, verify and analyze information relevant for the project. This is information will guide project interventions and policy advocacy efforts. Where information gaps exist, the Data Analysis Officer will help in setting up tools and conducting assessments, which may also involve other stakeholders within and outside of Saferworld. 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Support the development of a database, forms and other tools used to collect, process, analyse, store and share information for the project.
  • Receive, document and process daily and/or weekly reports for the project.
  • Follow up with partners to clarify information and triangulate with other sources to ensure accuracy.
  • On the basis information received and processed, produce ad hoc, weekly and monthly technical/ analytical reports for the project.
  • Provide recommendations on how to link gaps identified
  • Support the design of a structured dissemination plan for all information products developed from the project through web portal, mailing lists, relevant forums etc.
  • Support and where necessary train partners in data collection, analysis and report writing
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor data collection
  • Ensure that all information that is generated is properly stored
  • Support the development of standard operating procedures for data management and information sharing.

  • Support Planning, and implementation of the peacebuilding and governance projects.
  • Work with the operations team in making logistical arrangements for the project activities.
  • Work closely with the M&E coordinator and project coordinator to continuously assess the extent to which partners’ initiatives are achieving the set results, writing and filing of reports.
  • Assist in the design and delivery of needs based training and other support activities related to the project.
  • Participate in and contribute to quarterly and other scheduled programme performance review meetings.
  • Support in organising regular meetings with partners to review and reflect on progress and results in order to identify, mitigate challenges and learn lessons for improved programme delivery.

Person specification

Knowledge, qualifications and experience

  • A recognised first degree or professional qualification in: information management and communications, development studies; peacebuilding, governance; international relations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in information management, data collection and analysis
  • A good understanding of peace and governance issues in Somalia.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data collection and analysis software.

Skills and abilities

  • Strong knowledge of Excel and MS Access or other databases.
  • Ability to use mobile phone apps in data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of different data collection methodologies.
  • Ability to analyse statistical information and translate into technical briefs with understandable tables, charts, graphs and narrative presentations
  • Ability to formulate information management related technical requirements and operating procedures.
