Dean of Communication and Information Technology (ICT)-Burao, Somaliland

Job title: Dean of Communication and Information Technology (ICT).

Location: University of Burao, main campus, Sha’ab Area, Burao, Somaliland.

Duration: 12 Months with possible extension.

Overview

The University of Burao UB is a university in Burao, Somaliland. It is an independent community-based higher education institution established in 2004 in Burao, the capital city of Togdheer region in Somaliland. Ten batches have graduated from UB until 2020. It has branches in other districts outside of Burao such as Sheikh, Ainabo and Odweine. In 2016, the school was selected as member of Association of Arab Universities.

The Vision of the University is to equip students the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude for their future by providing an outstanding teaching and learning experience.  To attract and retain the best, most reliable, qualified lecturers and professors to work in all University Faculties and to be the Center for research and Development. The University is looking for a qualified individual who will lead the faculty Communication and Information Technology (ICT).

The duties of the Dean will include, but not limited to:

• Provide academic leadership to the Faculty and reports directly to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (DVC-AA).
• Responsible for, but not limited to, academic planning, enhancement of programs, curriculum development with consultation of concerned departments, teaching, professional guidance of lecturers, involvement in the recruitment process of faculty, faculty development and evaluation, attracting students, advising students on academic level and personal level, students career advice, budget development, and allocation of resources of his/her Faculty.
• Obligated to teach at least one course unit without pay every semester.
• Must submit a detailed individual development and action plan One Week before the beginning of the semester.
• At the end of the semester, the Dean is required to submit a detailed report about the progress of his/her Faculty and the challenges he/she faced during that particular Semester and the way forward.
• Any other duty assigned by the management of the University.

Qualifications and Experience

The applicants must have:

• Master of Science in Information technology, Computer Science or related field of study from an accredited college/university.
• At least 5 years experience in similar position in an academic setting.
• At least six years or more in teaching in higher Educational Institution.
• Ability to work with harmony with persons of different backgrounds.
• Ability to prioritize.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Professional work ethic and
• Time management.
