DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONALIZATION OFFICE – Mogadishu, Somalia

I. PREAMBLE

The Somali National University (SNU) was established in 1954 as a two-years institute to train colonial
bureaucrats. It was advanced to a four-years college and granted official status as a national university in 1969. In the next three decades, SNU became one of the most renown universities in Africa. Today, the University brides itself in producing preeminent leaders in all sectors of the economy, government and society.

SNU is the premier and only public university in Somalia. As such, it excels in education, innovation,
research, technology transfer and community outreach. The University boasts over ten thousand
population, including students, researchers, administrative staff, and outstanding faculty. SNU strives to provide relevant education and research programs to produce the required professionals to human
resource necessary for addressing the socioeconomic, political, cultural, science and technology needs
of the country.

II. DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONALIZATION OFFICE

1. Job Description
The Director of the Internationalization Office is a full-time position. The successful candidate will be the principal officer to manage the University’s relationship with other universities, line institutions and relevant partners. In this capacity, the Director is charged to monitor the direction and trend of global higher education, and strive to position SNU to effectively participate in the ever-changing landscape of the higher education sector.

The position of the Internationalization Office Director is a full-time position. The Director is responsible to and reports directly to the Rector. In addition, the duties attaching to this post may require him/her to work remotely, and at times evenings and weekends to execute work assignments

2. Duties

The duties of the Director of Internationalization Office include (though not limited to) the following:

a. Advise and assist the Rector on the University’s internationalization policy and programs.

b. Direct SNU’s relationship with other universities, line institutions, partners and relevant
stakeholders.

c. Facilitate and coordinate exchange agreements (MOUs) and external communications with
other institutions.

d. Ensure that SNU’s relationships with other institutions are aligned with relevant national policies
and principles of Higher Education.

e. Ensure that SNU’s agreements (MOUs) with others advance SNU’s goals and objectives.

f. Ensure that SNU’s agreements with other institutions complement and advance SNU’s goals and
objectives.

3. Required Qualifications

The suitable candidate of this position shall have (though not limited to) the following credentials:

a. A Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in any of the professional subjects or in related fields.

b. Five years of professional experience in managing office and making decisions.

c. Possess a minimum of two years’ experience dealing with higher education issues, such as
social, pedagogical, economic and curricular matters–preferably in global context.

4. Additional Skills

a. Advanced verbal, written, and presentational communication skills, as well as report writing
ability in written and verbal form.

b. Have knowledge and sensitivity to cultural issues and experience of dealing with international
organizations/individuals.

c. Possesses a working knowledge of communications strategies at national and international
levels.

d. Possesses a good command of Somali and English.

e. Be proficient in Arabic and French.

f. Be willing to travel frequently.
