Reports To: Branch coordinator and the FAPHEC focal point

Overall Job Purpose
Ambulance drivers transport convalescent, injured, or ill persons. Circumstances determine the assignment. In some cases, drivers will transport emergency patients from one facility to another facility. In other cases, drivers will transport patients and emergency medical personnel to the hospital.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Driving Services
- Receive, accept, and follow detailed instructions regarding day-to-day emergency operations.
- Inspecting the ambulance before each shift, checking the fuel, oil, transmission fluid, wiper fluid, and coolant, and reporting any needed repairs.
- Helping patients onto the ambulance gurney and loading them into the ambulance, assisted by a partner or other medical personnel.
- Administer first aid, including CPR and bandaging, when mass casualties exist.
- Checking the first aid and medical supplies inventory levels before each shift and ensuring the ambulance is well-stocked
- Driving an ambulance as quickly and safely as possible to transport patients to the hospital.
- Ensuring the ambulance hygiene and safely disposing of any medical waste and soiled linens
- Maintaining your driving log with daily entries and noting patients’ names and addresses, travel times, mileage, and service performed
- Observe traffic rules and regulations and report any incidents or accidents.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Undertake routine and preventive maintenance of the assigned motor vehicle by checking and topping up petrol, oil, coolant, water, battery, and tire pressure before operating the vehicle.
- Ensure the availability of all required documents, including a driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and a first aid kit.
- Maintain a log book of the motor vehicle’s daily movement, showing journey, mileage, and consumables.
- Check the condition of the spare wheel, jack, wheel spanner, and jumper cables.
- Ensure regular vehicle inspections, timely repairs, and minor vehicle maintenance.
- Requisition for fuel, lubricants, and spare parts; also maintain a record accounting for the same.
- Ensure the assigned vehicle is kept clean, tidy, secure, and in good working condition at all times.
- Able to work for long hours and on weekends as per shift.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the SRSC FAPHEC focal point.
Education, Training Job skills & Professional Qualifications
- Education: completion of high school education or equivalent qualifications
- willingness to participate in on-the-job training
- Defensive driving, motor vehicle maintenance
- Professional Training: Basic First Aid and Fire Fighting
- Certification/Licensing: Valid Driving License

- Ability to remain calm under pressure and reassure frightened patients
- Respond positively to critical feedback and differing points of view.
- Good physical agility without any drug addictions
Other requirements:
Demonstrate proficiency in the Somali and English languages.
Minimum of 3 years of driving experience with a safe driving record working
Relevant experience: preferably in a humanitarian organization.
