Background
SRCS is an independent, non-political humanitarian organisation. It was established in April 1963 and became a legal entity following Presidential Decree No. 187 in 1965. SRCS has operated continuously throughout the country’s period of civil war and political divide and is credited for its unity as one National Society. It operates through a network of nineteen branches with activities spread all across the country.
Overall Job Purpose
Provide reliable, safe and timely driving services to transport authorized staff and visitors to specified locations, including delivery and collection of mail, documents, packages as well as loading and offloading goods and supplies in compliance with approved transport policy guidelines and traffic rules and regulation. In addition undertake day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehiclethrough timely routine maintenance such as checking tires, brakes, lights, coolant, changing the oil and washing the vehicle to ensure it is kept clean, tidy, secure and in good working condition at all times
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Driving Services
- Receive, accept and follow detailed instructions regarding day-to-day transport operations
- Provide professional, reliable, safe and timely driving services to transport authorized staff and visitors to specified locations taking care to ensure safety and security situation in the field
- Ensure all passengers wear seat belts at all times in the vehicle
- Deliver and collect mail, documents and other packages according to instructions
- Plan loading, off-loading and delivery of goods and supplies in the most efficient, ensure cargo is secured safely according to procedure and make delivery within agreed time limits
- Take great care to avoid damage to cargo and report damage immediately if it occurs
- Observe traffic rules and regulations and report any incidents and accidents
Vehicle Maintenance
- Undertake routine and preventive maintenance of assigned motor vehicle by checking and topping-up petrol, oil, coolant, water, battery and tire pressure before operating the vehicle
- Ensure availability of all required documents, including driver license, vehicle insurance and, first aid kit
- Maintain log book of motor vehicle’s daily movement showing journey, mileage and consumables
- Check condition of spare-wheel, jack, wheel spanner and jumper cables
- Ensure regular vehicle inspection, timely repairs, and carry out minor vehicle maintenance
- Requisition for fuel, lubricants and spare parts, also maintain a record accounting for the same
- Ensure assigned vehicle is kept clean, tidy, secure and in good working condition at all times
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the SRSC Senior Management
Education, Training & Professional Qualifications
Education: Completion of High School Education or equivalent qualifications
Defensive driving, Motor-Vehicle Maintenance
Professional Training: Basic First Aid and Fire Fighting
Certification/Licensing: Valid Driving License

Language Requirement: Demonstrate proficiency in Somali language
Minimum of 3 years driving experience with safe driving record working
Relevant Experience: preferably in a humanitarian organization
