JOB DESCRIPTION FOR A DRIVER.

1. INTRODUCTION

VSF Germany is an international Non-Governmental Organization, providing humanitarian aid and development assistance to pastoralists and vulnerable communities in areas where livestock is of importance. In the region, VSF Germany implements activities in Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Somalia, Uganda & Ethiopia. It focuses on Livestock, food security and Livelihoods, Natural Resources Management, Peace and Conflict, Good governance, Disasters & Emergency, Agriculture and marketing, but also with developing the capacity of communities and governmental institutions or initiating peace and conflict resolution we work towards food security and strengthened livelihoods of pastoralist communities.

1. THE POSITION

We seek to recruit a qualified and well experienced Driver to provide reliable, safe and timely driving services for authorized staff and visitors to the specified destinations and the collection and delivery of goods, documents, supplies and other packages in compliance with the organization’s transport policies, guidelines and Puntland state’s traffic rules and regulations. The Driver will be based in Garowe and with frequent visits to other locations within the State.

1. KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DRIVER WILL INCLUDE:

Drive the team to project assignment, within the project boundaries. Keep record of any accidents and report to Line Manager

Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle.

Conduct radio communication as requested by Line Manager

Report to Garowe about the vehicle movement to and from assigned locations Driving VSF-G staff members as assigned within the activity work plan.

Purchasing items upon request.

Collection of pouch/parcels/ mail(s) on a regular basis.

Drive safely and respect the traffic regulations (over-speeding on the roads will definitely not be allowed; must wear the safety belt and ensure that all passengers wear seat belts).

Regular checking of water and oil levels, batteries, coolant, tyres pressures, the general shape of the vehicle and reporting to the administrator of any problems or breakdowns

Keep and update the log book for the vehicle Maintain daily records of vehicle mileage

Keep detailed records of maintenance and services in the log book as well as the fuel consumption.

Responsible for the maintenance and well running of all the Vehicle.

Take the vehicle to an authorized appointed automobile service provider for regular service.

Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager.

1. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, ATTRIBUTES & SKILLS REQUIRED

• Completion of secondary school or equivalent certificate;
• Holds a Certificate of vehicle maintenance;
• Defense driving course certificate is an added advantage;
• Holds valid driving license with at least 5 years driving experience;
• First aid emergency training is an added advantage
• Involved no major accidents in the last three years with a certificate from local traffic Police.
