The key themes for the philanthropic side of the Foundation are education, health, water and agriculture. At the end of 2019, the Foundation started its Pharo Ventures franchise to prioritise sectors where the Foundation believes a real impact can be made by establishing self-sustaining businesses, which focus on job creation.
The Pharo Foundation Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme is designed to prepare young people for the world of work and provides the tools for sustainable development. The programme encompasses education, training and skills development relating to a wide range of occupational fields, production, services and livelihoods. It is intended to inspire young people identify and explore their potential and contribute to national development and to bridge the gap between Somaliland labour market and technical skills required for the continued development of the country.
Headquartered in London, the Foundation has an operational Head Office in Nairobi, Kenya with country offices in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa and Assosa), Somaliland (Hargeisa) and Rwanda (Kigali).
Position Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Electrical Installation and Renewable Energy Instructor of Level 1 and 2 who is experienced in the delivery of coursework and National Qualification in this area. As part of the TVET Team you will take the lead role in supporting young people gain experience, knowledge and qualifications in electrical installation and renewable energy.
The Technical Instructor must be extremely knowledgeable in their field of expertise and possess solid technical aptitude. Additionally, we expect you to be an excellent communicator, able to explain complex subjects in a clear and interesting way.
The goal is to contribute to the development of student’s technical skills to meet organisational needs.
Job Title: Electrical installation and Renewable Energy Level 1 & 2 Instructor
Reports to: Vocational Training Officer
Job Location: Hargeisa, Somaliland
Contract: Fixed term (12 months)
Functional Relationships: Real Estate and Construction Development Manager and Pharo Education Team
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction of principles of electrical installation, renewable energy and understanding the science behind electricity and renewable energy distribution.
Organise highly interactive training sessions to equip participants with key knowledge and skills on electrical and solar installation.
Deliver training in lectures, labs and field experiences to prepare participants for careers as electrical and solar technicians.
Design and install technologies employed within the electrical and solar industry.
Plan the training program according to labour market needs and industry standards.
Provide participants extensive knowledge on wiring systems and enclosures of specifications involved with electrical installations to comply industry safety standards.
Instruction of photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions of the manufacturer or user specifications.
Provide participants the techniques of inspecting, testing and commissioning of electro technical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment.
Instruction of solar panel arrays at residential and commercial sites.
Producing training schedules, measuring learning starting points to tailor delivery to meet Training objectives and labour market needs.
Maintain and organise student records, such as grades, assignments and performance evaluations.
Carrying out trainee assessment, ensuring proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment.
Provide input on training equipment purchases.
Keep and report data on completed courses, absences, issues etc. Observe and evaluate results of training programs.
Determine overall effectiveness of programs and make improvements.
Maintain trainees’ discipline and guiding and mentoring trainee.
Qualifications Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a combination of relevant experiences and related education with a minimum of 3 years of experience support in similar role of TVET instruction.
Experience in Electrical skill Training and workshop facilitation. Competency in provision of theory and practical lessons.
Experience in starting a small business, working within a start-up business or academic training in Vocational training skill would be a strong asset.
Experience in different software used in electrical and renewable industry (Auto card, Matlab, ETAP, Homer pro, Simulink etc.)
Knowledge of electronic circuit layout, designs and diagrams.
Knowledge of continuous evaluation and integrated assessments.
Understanding of current legislation and health and safety issues with the equipment and materials used in electric and solar systems installations.
Experience of designing a new curriculum and implementing an accredited course. Safety rules and practices.
Experience in solar PV installation practices.
Ability to work independently
Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Good communication and presentation skills.
High level of professionalism, work ethics and integrity. Excellent class management skills.
Ability to adapt to different environment.
Excellent organisational and time-management abilities. Creative thinker who can think outside the box
