Action Against Hunger-USA has over $100 million in programs, and approximately 1,800 permanent staff based in New York City, Washington D.C, Nairobi, and country offices. Additional growth is anticipated.
Job Summary
The enumerators’ main goal is to collect data at the Bay, Bakool, Puntland, Gedo & Banadir based on need, and where required, the enumerators will participate in assessments conducted by Action Against Hunger and its partners. She/he will perform data collection activities for assessments and surveys such as baseline surveys, KAP, PDM, Need assessments, End-line, desk review, data entry, and any other duties/activities assigned by the meal officer.
Essential job duties:
- Attend all the required and relevant training sessions and briefings prior to fieldwork
- Understand the questionnaire and the use of data collection devices during the training.
- Accurately collect high-quality reliable data as per field collection plan or as instructed by the supervisor
- Upload all collected data through phone devices on the assigned platform/server
- Convert Focus Group Discussion (FGDs) and Key Informant Interview (KII) notes into scripts; translate them into English/Somali as required.
- Enable to conduct of SLEAC/SQUAC survey.
- Proofread the qualitative research notes before submission to the supervisor, and rectify on the statements with issues.
- Follow the guidelines of the data collection manual and specific guidelines for each exercise
- Participate in the analysis and/or learning workshops as requested.
- Measure weight, height, oedema, and MUAC of children 6-59 months accurately and inform the team leader.
- Maintain proper care of measuring equipment.
- Carry anthropometric equipment
- Assist team leader with household selection.
- Assist with any other job duties outlined by the Survey Manager.
- Accurately map clusters/segmentation or use/ /create lists to maintain random HH selection.
- Conduct interviews effectively and record data on questionnaires.
- Enter questionnaire data into ENA software to determine if any WHO flags are identified. If WHO flags are identified the child/children must be measured again and referred.
- Maintain proper care of mobile/tablet being used for data collection.
- Ensure the tablet is charged on the time
- Review questionnaire completeness and submit to the server
- Assist with any other job duties outlined by the Survey Manager.
- Liaise with the supervisor for any arising issues in the field
- Respect the interview ethics and deal with beneficiaries with the utmost respect
- Comply with Action Against Hunger minimum operating standards, Code of Conduct, and other protocols
- Perform any other duties assigned by the line Manager
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Social Sciences, Public Health, and related disciplines
Required Qualifications
- Experience in data collection of surveys and assessments
- Experience in qualitative data collection; Focus Group discussions, observations, and Key Informant Interviews
- Experience in Quantitative data collection methodology; Household surveys
- Experience with mobile data collection applications (ex. ODK, ONA, KOBO, and Commcare).
- Able to understand interview questions properly and can ask beneficiaries correctly
- Ability to build good working relationships with local authorities, stakeholders, and beneficiaries
- Ability to stay with households for long period to see the behaviour of children
- Ability to deal with children, feeling comfortable in a challenging environments like IDP camps
- Be an active and keen listener
- Fluency in Somali and good working knowledge of English.
