Context

Search for Common Ground (Search) and local partners Somali Women Studies Center (SWSC) and Somali Community Action Group (SCAG) implementing a 9-month (September 1, 2022 – May 31, 2023) rapid response project to address both the risk of SGBV in Afmadow. The overall goal of this project is to strengthen the collaboration among stakeholders in increasing awareness and response to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Afmadow district.

The Common Ground Approach involves revealing the aspects of people’s identities that can catalyse collaboration. Moving away from adversarial towards collaborative approaches starts with the way we see the other as an ally, rather than an enemy or adversary. As various Somali actors become aware of their common identities and values, a fuller sense of humanity of the other is gained, bringing people together to address the rise in SGBV in Afmadow. Therefore, this project will breakdown “us versus them” dynamics and barriers allowing SGBV survivors to access services so they may pursue justice and accountability.

To achieve this goal, Search proposes the following objectives: Objective 1: To provide holistic support to women SGBV survivors in Afmadow district.

Objective 2: To foster constructive multi-stakeholder dialogue and engagement on SGBV.

The reports will be submitted to Search’s Project team for review and final approval.
