Fiber Splicing Technician Job Announcement

Summary

Title	Fiber Splicing Technician (2 Positions)
Purpose	Responsible to install and maintain Somtel Backbone & Metro fiber optic cable networks.
Location	Mogadishu with frequent travel in all regions of South and Central Somalia
Reporting to	ISP Unit Manager

ROLE PURPOSE

Fiber Splicing Technician is Responsible for cabling and termination of fiber Optics, Cat3, Cat5, Cat6, CATV and various other wiring disciplines including testing and troubleshooting of wiring problems. Applicant Perform administrative tasks including, but not limited to, documenting test results and as builts, completing safety reports, keeping safety meeting minutes, maintaining log books, providing labor summary reports, etc. They Produces monthly Optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) testing for the installed fiber cable and coordinating with higher managements. Working closely with civil work departments, assisting fibre cable installers to understand the importance of the fibre networks and procedures.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsible to install and maintain Somtel Backbone & Metro fiber optic networks.
Responsible for outside plant fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
Optical fiber splicing, including equipment set-up, maintenance, proof-testing of fiber splices; development of splicing guidelines and documentation of splicing and testing results.
Develop splicing diagrams and designs to facilitate network architecture.
Maintain fiber asset inventory and splicing as build records.
Develop spicing plan including required materials, deliver schedules, completion schedules, manpower requirements and tool/equipment lists.
Perform maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation tests and repairing broken cables.
Anticipate and advice on fiber product issues, risks and other challenges.
Responsible for running new cabling in new or existing buildings.
Handling escalated works, complaints, questions, and queries as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum 2+ year experience of fiber splicing experience
Basic industry knowledge and technology trends
Must have vision to allow differences in colors, shades and brightness.
Ability to interact effectively with other team members.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and quickly changing work environment with strict deadlines.
Must be able to work in different temperatures and changing weather conditions.
