Welthungerhilfe Somalia is currently looking for qualified personnel to fill vacant positions as listed below for a fixed term period of one year.

Objectives, duties, areas of responsibility
- Objectives of the position
The purpose of this role is to oversee delivery of Welthungerhilfe’s operations in Galgaduud, coordinating field activities in support of the humanitarian project SOM1048 as well as the establishment of Welthungerhilfe’s broader programme in Galgaduud.
The Field Coordinator will work in collaboration with the Area Manager – Somalia, Liaison Officer and Country Director. The Somalia team is embedded within the structure of the Kenya Country Office and is supported by the Programmes department, Emergency preparedness Expert, Partner Advisor, Finance team and MEAL Officer in all reporting requirements – both internal and external. The line manager will be the Area Manager – Somalia.
The Field Coordinator will supervise Welthungerhilfe field staff and will coordinate closely with the team of the project’s local implementing partners – ensuring efficient, timely and safe delivery of the project during Welthungerhilfe’s startup phase in Somalia.
The Field Coordinator will also play a crucial role in ensuring transparency and accountability, in support of the project MEAL team and Area Manager (Nairobi). The Field Coordinator will be responsible for the flow of accurate and timely information from the field to project management at national and regional levels.

2.1 Duties with own area of responsibility
- Coordinate project implementation
- Coordinate technical, financial and administrative management of the project.
- Have oversight of security in the field and field office for Welthungerhilfe project staff.
- Regularly monitor the delivery and execution of project activities and provide feedback to management.
- Compile and document relevant information for reporting.
- Design, implement and document meetings, workshops and related events.
- Provide overall support project staff and consultants.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the programme
- Provide technical and operational advice on project implementation to management and support teams.
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of political, security and other relevant factors in the field and relay relevant information to senior management.
- Contribute to the development of new projects through contributions to proposals and collecting evidence in the field.
- Plan project and programme activities, ensuring knowledge transfer
- Coordinate the planning of project activities in the field.
- Develop project designs and lead planning exercises.
- Formulate project action plans and monitor their effectiveness and efficiency,
ensuring their alignment with project budgets.
- Develop and deploy technical guidelines and operating procedures.
- Represent Welthungerhilfe projects externally in Galgaduud
- Support the Liaison Officer in developing and maintaining contact with relevant
local and regional project stakeholders as required by the project.
- Manage project cooperation with government institutions, non-governmental
organizations and local communities, in support of the Liaison Officer.
- When required, represent projects externally.
- Take ownership of local security for Welthungerhilfe staff
- Report all security issues to management through regular updates.
- Actively maintain a security protocol in the field office and project sites in support of the Liaison, Security and Logistics Officer.
- Liaise with local and regional security actors as required for the delivery of projects.
5.2 Duties without own area of responsibility
- Fulfillment of any other reasonable tasks assigned by management which correspond in general with the character of the position.
- Play an active and collegial role in the Somalia senior management team.
Skills and Qualifications
Professional qualifications and experience
- Undergraduate degree in a field relevant to rural development and economics, management and/or logistics from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 4 years of progressive experience in project cycle management and implementation.
- Demonstrable experience in research-oriented programmes and/or the development of knowledge products.
- Demonstrable experience of strategic planning.
- Demonstrable line management experience and leadership of a field team in an insecure context.
- Experience of working with local counterparts (CSOs, local NGOs and others) and line ministries.
- Practical skills in programme needs assessments, baseline/endline surveys and project monitoring and evaluation.
1.4 Communication
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
- Interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and inspire a field team of women and men.
- Proven ability to remain calm under pressure, including in insecure contexts.
- Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
- Confidence to effectively represent Welthungerhilfe externally.
