Finance Officer – Burao, Somaliland
Background;
Somaliland Youth Peer Education Network (Somaliland Y-PEER) is youth led organization which promotes reproductive health rights, fights all types of gender-based violence, enhances youth employment opportunities, develops leadership and entrepreneurship of young people in Somaliland. Its main office is in Hargeisa with regional offices in Erigavo and Burao cities of Somaliland.
Position title: Finance Officer
Duty Station: Burao with frequent travels to Erigavo and Hargeisa.
Duration: One year with possibility of extension
Description of the Position
The Finance Officer will be responsible project finance and documentation of all activities of the organization including human resource, financial and programs/projects activities in Somaliland.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
The Finance Officer performs the following key responsibilities under the supervision of the Somaliland Y-PEER Executive Director and Program Coordinator.
- Manage all financial matters of the project
- Assists Project Coordinator and Executive Director on all budgetary and financial matters particularly in financial planning and projections
- Prepares payments, purchase authorizations, processes tax and other financial transactions.
- Verifies all payments before the approval of Executive Director.
- Maintains and updates all finance data
- Maintains updated cashbook and verifies the proper archiving system of any supporting documentation for each transaction.
- In close coordination with Project Coordinator and Executive Director, coordinates activities related to auditing, assessments and queries from partners.
- Undertakes bank reconciliation every month with within the last date of each month.
- Verifies the budget constantly and prepares monthly forecasting.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports.
- Manages procurement and related activities with the guidance of Finance and Administrative Officer.
- Manages and supervises project assets and property
- Maintains comprehensive and organized organizational filing systems.
- Represent the project in the workshops, meetings, conferences, trainings and events related to the finance.
Qualifications, Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Finance or equivalent knowledge in humanitarian and development projects,
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in financial management
- Excellent in budget development, financial reports and procedures
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
- Strong computer skills particularly in Microsoft office mainly excel
- Sufficient knowledge of the local context of Sanaag and Togdheer regions of Somaliland
- Respect for human rights, principles of professionalism, equal opportunities, diversity, transparency and democracy.
- Familiar with use of social media sites
