SOS Children’s Villages is a global federation of 136 national SOS Children’s Villages associations, working in more than 2000 programme locations worldwide. We work together with a single vision: every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security.

Uniquely, we provide long-term, family-like care for children who have lost parental care (alternative care service), and we work with vulnerable families and communities to help strengthen them and prevent child abandonment (family strengthening service, FS). SOS alternative care is usually organized in the form of a cluster of SOS families, where each SOS parent cares for small group of children.

SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland is a part of SOS Children’s Villages, the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland is affiliated. SOS Somaliland is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that is not for profit, non-sectarian and non-partisan and which has been in existence since 1999.

SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland shares vision with SOS Children’s Villages and beliefs that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security. To realize this, SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland builds families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities.

SOS Children’s Villages is committed to the welfare of children who lost parental care or at risk of losing parental care – often ensuring that children grow up in a loving family environment, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against child abandonment and social neglect, and upholds child protection policy as part of their commitment to the protection of children and youth from abuse.

SOS Children’s Villages was established in Somaliland in 1999 and it started first operations in Sahil region. Currently, SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland implements programs ranging from child care and protection, families strengthening, youth empowerment participation, advocacy and emergency relief interventions.

SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland seeks to fill the following position which will be based in Hargeisa. We seek to recruit a Finance Officer to fulfill the finance management tasks are implemented and adhered to in according to the organizational standards.

Key responsibilities:

Financial Management

  • Register and update monthly register books.
  • Batch the finical data from register book to Navision financials software.
  • Check petty cash payment
  • Check all payments are supported by source documents.
  • Facilitate & follow up travel advances and their settlements.
  • Prepare salary/wage payments of contract employees & part-timer staff.
  • Ensures the timely settlement of advance payments and project obligations (taxes, provident fund, Pension etc.)
  • Monitors operating/administrative expenses and external funds and identifies issues for discussion with program management team
  • Prepares quarterly/monthly reports of the public funded projects/ Earmarked projects.
  • Ensures that all financial and accounting related files and records reflect high professional standards
  • Prepares cash flow forecasts on monthly and quarterly basis and plans for timely preparation and replenishment for local partners and others as necessary and applicable.
  • Check monthly financial documents & verify their completeness.
  • Prepare monthly financial documents / reports and make ready to send to National office finance department.
  • Codes transaction documents and records entries in proper accounts.

Fixed Asset & Property Management

  • Keeps proper record of fixed assets and property.
  • Confirm copy of GRR & receipts are filed & custodian register is updated.
  • Prepare monthly fixed asset reports (Purchase report, Transfer report, Hand-over report, Store readmit report, Issued from store report and custodianship update report.)
  • Conduct the inventory counts of properties for the program annually & semi-annually.

Cash and Bank Management

  • Coordinate daily cash collections such as refund from staff & other income and follow-up intact deposit of collected income.
  • Prepare summary for KDI transfers via bank advices
  • Facilitate the timely transfer and settlement of project implementation budget to distant projects.
  • Prepare monthly cash flow and submit to national finance manager through finance officer

 Others

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • Minimum University degree in in Accounting or with additional training on Finance Management
  • At least 4 years’ relevant experience in Finance
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Somali
  • Excellent inter-personal skills including sensitivity in cross cultural communications.
  • Ability to collate and analyze financial and other data in a clear and coherent manner
  • Ability to organize and manage one’s own work with ability to prioritize and work under pressure
  • Ability to work with children or vulnerable people in an appropriate and safe manner in accordance with the SOS Children’s Villages Child Protection Policy
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and good skills in accounting software packages.
