Purpose of the Position:
DBG is Planning to implement a food security and livelihood project in Beletweyne district of Hiran Region, Somalia and seeks to engage the services of a competent Project Officer to assist the Program Manager in the coordination of the implementation of the Project.
The Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) Officer will play a key role in designing, implementing, and monitoring food security and income-generating activities. The role aims to improve household resilience and reduce food insecurity among targeted communities through effective programming and community engagement.
Job Description
1. Key Responsibilities
Program Planning and Implementation
- Support the implementation of food security and livelihoods activities (e.g., cash/voucher distributions, small business support, and agricultural inputs).
- Conduct needs assessments and market analysis to inform program design.
- Engage communities and local stakeholders to ensure participation and sustainability.
- Monitor project implementation and contribute to regular progress reports.
- Support trainings on sustainable agriculture, income generation, and climate-resilient practices.
- Coordinate with other actors and represent the organization in sectoral meetings as needed.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Prepare and submit regular reports on activity implementation, achievements, and challenges.
- Participate in baseline surveys, post-distribution monitoring, and impact assessments.
Community Engagement and Capacity Building
- Mobilize and engage community members, local leaders, and stakeholders in FSL activities.
- Provide training and support to beneficiaries on livelihood strategies, agricultural practices, or business skills.
- Promote community ownership and sustainability of interventions.
Coordination and Collaboration
- Participate in sectoral coordination meetings (e.g., Food Security Cluster, Livelihood Working Group).
- Ensure integration with other sectors (WASH, Nutrition, Protection) where appropriate.
Procurement and Resource Management
- Support procurement processes by providing technical input on specifications and supplier selection.
- Monitor distribution of inputs and resources to ensure transparency and accountability.
Any other duties as assigned by the Project Manager/Coordinator
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Rural Development, Economics, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in humanitarian or development FSL programs.
- Strong understanding of food security principles and community-based approaches.
- Experience with cash-based programming, livelihoods support, or vocational training is a plus.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and data collection tools (e.g., Kobo Toolbox, ODK).
