About the Job.

The Social Environmental Agency (SEA) is a national non-profit and non-political organization established in 2017 by Somali intellectuals to address the needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), returnees, and vulnerable host communities in Somalia, particularly in Jubaland, South West State, and Bannadir Region. SEA operates its headquarters in Kismayo with sub-branch offices in Mogadishu, Baidoa, and Afmadow.

SEA’s interventions encompass various sectors including; Food Security and Livelihoods, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Health, Protection and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) issues, enabling effective engagement with communities, governments, donors in projects implementations.

Social Environmental Agency (SEA) is currently seeking a qualified Gender and Protection Officer who will base in Kismayo, with frequent travel to the field for regularly project implementation and technical support activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the integration of gender equality and protection principles across all project activities and organizational operations.
  • Conduct gender and protection assessments to identify specific needs, risks, and vulnerabilities of women, men, boys, and girls.
  • Ensure the protection of vulnerable groups including women, children, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities.
  • Develop and implement gender-sensitive and protection-focused action plans, strategies, and training programs.
  • Support the mainstreaming of gender and protection in project design, planning, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams on gender equity, prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA), and safeguarding.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, community leaders, and protection partners to strengthen referral pathways and case management systems.
  • Facilitate awareness sessions, focus group discussions, and community dialogues on gender equality, GBV prevention, and protection rights.
  • Support identification, documentation, and referral of gender-based violence (GBV) cases following established protocols and confidentiality standards.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report protection trends, risks, and incidents affecting target populations.
  • Contribute to the development of gender-sensitive indicators and tools for data collection and reporting.
  • Build capacity of staff and partners on gender, protection, child safeguarding, and inclusion principles.
  • Ensure compliance with donor requirements, organizational policies, and international protection standards.
  • Promote accountability to affected populations and safe programming practices.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and protection cluster forums at local and national levels.
  • Prepare regular reports, case studies, and documentation highlighting gender and protection outcomes.

Minimum qualifications and required competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Gender Studies, Social Science, Law, Sociology, and other related discipline.
  • 2-3 Years work experience in gender, protection in emergency, gender mainstreeting. Women rights.
  • Excellent communication. presentation, interpersonal and organization skills.
  • Excellency planning and reporting skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali Language.
  • Computer proficiency especially MS office.
