SUMMARY

The General Service Specialist works at U.S. Embassy Mogadishu and provides general services support, including shipping, inventory, fleet management, travel management, and other as-needed services.

***This position requires an active Secret level clearance to be considered. ***

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The General Service Specialist will track inbound and outbound shipments to/from Embassy Mogadishu using the Department’s ILMS platform.  Recommend courses to action to the Management Officer on how to improve import/export process.
  • Maintain property inventory of all items assigned to Embassy Mogadishu via the Department ILMS platform.  Dispose of items as required by Department regulations.  Recommend to the Management Officer possible ways to streamline the annual inventory process.
  • Monitor and update post’s fleet vehicle management system.  Monitor and schedule preventive maintenance for fleet vehicles while maintaining/documenting fleet inventory in Department’s ILMS platform.
  • Track procurements and ensure procurements have been legally made and services have been/or in the process of being provided.
  • The General Service Specialist assists the Management Officer in coordinating charter flights to transport staff and TDY visitors to and from Mogadishu.
  • Assist in drafting E2 travel orders for short and long-term temporary duty employees assigned to posts, to include extensions, home leave and departure travel entitlements while providing customer support to individuals on TDY assignment to posts involving phone, email and personal communication.
  • Assist employees with closing their vouchers in E2 Travel System at the conclusion of their tours. Includes reviewing travel authorizations to determine what voucher able expenses employee was entitled to and prepare related paperwork to process those vouchers.
  • Draft visa and passport request memos for processing, if required for extensions. Prepare, scan and file copies of all materials included in submission.
  • Maintains and organizes office files.
  • Manages other tasks authorized by the Government Task Manager that fall within the scope of this task order.

Skills and Qualifications

  • The General Service Specialist must be willing to work and live in Mogadishu.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be customer-service oriented, dependable, attentive to detail and willing to assist other team members as workloads require.
  • Familiarity with the Department of State procurement process, inventory, shipping and travel regulations and related systems.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and general administrative practices. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint preferred. Must be customer-service oriented, dependable, and attentive to detail.
  • The General Service Specialist must have the ability to interact with U.S. government Foreign Service and Civil Service.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure and adhere to short deadlines.
  • Strong writing skills and the ability to prepare professional emails quickly.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks that arise.
  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Successfully pass a federal background check and a drug screen
  • Cherokee Federal employees are included as covered employees in U.S. Presidential Executive Order 14042, which mandates Covid vaccines for federal contractors. Executive Order 14042 is currently blocked from enforcement pending court proceedings. Therefore, Cherokee Federal is halting the application of the mandate; however, if the injunction is lifted, Cherokee Federal will restore administration of the vaccine requirement.

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $103k   – $ 155k  annually
