Company Summary:

Somtel Group is the Telecommunications arm of Dahabshiil Group and one of the leading telecommunications in Somalia and Somaliland by subscribers.  Somtel is a member company under the Dahabshiil Group which spun off from its remittance wing founded by Mohamed Saeed Duale in 1970. The Group, presently, ranges from state-of-art telecommunication, Dahabshiil Motors, banking and remittance, to hospitality and real estate.

General Position Summary:

The Group Chief Commercial Officer is responsible to design and develop the Somtel Group’s Sales and Marketing strategy, develop and implement the marketing plan, customize and implement new products, packaging, pricing models, provide cross-functional communications, manager overall customer satisfaction and drive revenue growth for both new and existing customers. This position provides oversight to the Sales team in setting the direction, market strategy, enforcing Somtel policies, driving best practices, ensuring complete customer satisfaction and meeting the Somtel financial targets. The Chief Commercial Officer works closely with the CEO and other Heads of Department to ensure the organization’s strategic goals, total customer satisfaction and performance objectives are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Creation of a high performing team environment enabling employees to reach their full potential and maximize personal and business performance.
  2. Develop Somtel’s commercial strategy; align with Corporate Strategy and cascade to achieve revenue targets
  3. Coordinate setting and reviewing operating company’s commercial performance targets and budget in conjunction with CEO and CFO and in line with agreed strategy.
  4. Driving new business revenue and managing the renewal of existing business through developing and maintaining strong customer relationships.
  5. Direct and manage Consumer, Enterprise & Wholesale sectors
  6. Develop and execute Consumer, Enterprise & Wholesale marketing and sales strategies and programs that maximize the lifetime value of customer base
  7. Develop and implement sales and distribution channels strategic plan
  8. Set and facilitate achievement of direct and indirect sales targets and profit forecasts per channel
  9. Develop sales support and response for new / existing products and services
  10. Develop and seeks approval for the annual Sales budget, Monitor expenditure against approved levels and provide justification for significant variations.
  11. Develop a highly professional and results-oriented sales force capable of achieving, or exceeding, demanding sales targets. Monitors performance against these targets to assess need for remedial intervention
  12. Build strong relationship with key commercial partners such as leading device vendors or major distributors
  13. Scope customized solutions and support new products /services introduction
  14. Create an effective Commercial function by managing commercial performance and support to the regions, with clear KPIs.
  15. Provide disciplined performance management for team. Define and communicate annual goals, perform formal and informal performance reviews, and ensure changes and updates are communicated in a timely and professional manner.

Knowledge and Experience:

  1. Bachelors in Sales and Marketing, Business Administration with sales and Marketing Management, and Master’s Degree added advantage
  2. 10+ years of which 5 years must be in sales and account management experience in shared wireless infrastructure and in the telecommunications industry; Regional/global sales experience preferable.
  • Strong operational and strategic commercial management
  1. Important to have broad and in-depth knowledge across the range of marketing, distribution and service/customer experience areas
  2. Wireless infrastructure product design and price modelling.
  3. Project Management. • Advanced Negotiation Skills. • Financial Management.
  • Customer Relationship Management. • Sales and Marketing principles. • Ability to work effectively across many internal functional groups to optimize product offerings, create a seamless customer experience and resolve issues.
  • Self-motivated; able to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests, as well as collaborating with others to utilize resources and knowledge of others in identifying high quality solutions;
  1. Ability to identify strong talent and build individual and management capability.
  2. Excellent planning skills; ability to effectively manage priorities for self and team to meet business requirements and deadlines in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  3. Excellent leadership skills; ability to drive and motivate team to achieve results; ability to influence and inspire action.
  • Ability to drive work both independently toward the successful attainment of set goal and as part of a team to leverage input and knowledge base of others within the company in providing well rounded and thoughtful solution sets
  • Ability to identify key contacts for follow up; excellent ability to communicate project status updates to team and cross-functionally to ensure understanding.
  • Excellent strategic and problem-solving skills to effectively influence decision making in key negotiations.

Success Factors:

Expert knowledge of project management processes and best-practices; Expert knowledge of the telecommunications industry; Good analytical, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; High degree of integrity; Strategic thinking and results oriented; Track record of good management and development skills; Ability to read, evaluate and interpret products designs; A high level of personal motivation and enthusiasm; excellent customer care skills and with good ability to coordinate market activities. Fluency in Somali and English languages required.

Environmental Conditions

This position is based in Hargeisa and is unaccompanied. Travel within Somaliland/Somalia is required to support all Somtel Group’s offices. This position is eligible for very completive salary package and other benefits as per our Human Resource policy. Somtel group Team members represent the company and Dahabshiil Group both during and outside of work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a visit to a field posting.
