WARDI has offices in Mogadishu, Beletweyne and BuloBurte in South Central as well a liaison office in Nairobi. WARDI specializes in responding to humanitarian emergencies, bridging the gap between crisis and resilience as well as long-term developmental projects with track record in implementing high quality health and nutrition, Food Security and Livelihood, Education, protection, and WASH interventions. Our programming has the distinct attributes of applying bottom-up approach that puts the communities, local authorities, and governments (National and Federal states) at the center of our programmes.
We are looking for a talented and highly motivated health professional who will lead our ever-expanding Health and Nutrition program.
Summary of Position
The Health and Nutrition manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of health and nutrition programmes and specifically contribute to the ongoing rebuilding and strengthening of the Somali health system. He/ She will provide technical and management support throughout the program processes ensuring concrete and sustainable results are achieved as per the approved plans, budgets and WARDI’s strategic plans and goals.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead in the preparation, design and updating the situation analysis for Health and Nutrition Programmes to establish a strategic plan for development, design and management of Health and Nutrition programs with a focus on emergency response and health system strengthening.
- Lead in strategic discussions on planning for health including the formulation, design and preparation of health and nutrition proposals ensuring alignment with WARDI’s strategic plan and country priorities.
- Provide technical and operational support throughout the program cycle to attain integration of programs, coherence, and achievement of program goals.
- Collaborate with colleagues to help set up a robust monitoring and evaluation system that has clear benchmarks and can assess the strengths and performance of programs to deliver concrete and sustainable results for the health sector.
- Plan/lead and or participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises and program reviews with stakeholders including government counterparts, donors, and NGOs to assess progress and identify actions to enhance achievement of set goals. Ensure services delivered are of high quality and meet the standards set by MOH and donors and are based on local strategies such as the EPHS framework. Analyze reports from field monitoring visits, supervisions, and program reviews to identify gaps, bottlenecks, identify lessons learned and knowledge gained to achieve program goals.
- Plan and lead in conducting assessments o identify gaps and tailor response to effectively prioritize and deploy response.
- Prepare and manage program budgets according to donor dictates and closes monitor utilization ensuring accountability for prudent use of resources.
- Participate in establishing funding requirements for health and nutrition interventions and contribute to the development of proposals and concept notes for emergency response
- Prepare updates and regular mandatory reports for donors, government and for internal consumption to continuous update on program progress. Also take part in the development of WARDI’s annual reports.
- Undertake essential supply needs for programs and collaborate with procurement and supply teams to optimize stock holding, reduce stock outs and overstocks that could lead to expiries.
- Promote health and development concerns, particularly in the areas of gender, emergency preparedness, maternal and child health, and child survival and development, by taking part in talks at national and state level coordination forums.
- Identify staffing needs for the health and nutrition program, support recruitment, orientation, establishment of clear schedules and assignments. Conduct biannual performance reviews for staff and give feedback as necessary.
- Representing WARDI, develop and nature effective partnerships with government counterparts, donors, academia and nongovernmental organizations to facilitate the attainment of program goals.
Skills and Qualifications
- An advanced university degree in Public Health, health research, global health, Medicine, or other related health fields area.
- Minimum professional experience of 7 years in the humanitarian health and nutrition field.
- Knowledgeable in, health, nutrition, or rural development sectors.
- Thorough knowledge on the humanitarian operations coordination, cluster operations, and major donor health and nutrition requirements is essentials.
- Experience working in fragile, and access constrained setting will be an added advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of working with governmental, UN and NGO Health/Medical systems and structures
- Excellent organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities under strict deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent English language skills, both written and oral with practical computer skills and competence with Microsoft office environment.

- Familiarity with various assessment and evaluation methods.
- Knowledge and clear understanding of software necessary for data analysis.
- Good moderation, facilitation and training skills.
- Ability to perform a variety of conceptual analyses required for the formulation, administration and evaluation of projects.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a team and good interpersonal skills.
- Advanced computer applications skills.
- Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
- Ability to work under time pressure and meet deadlines.
