JOB TITLE: HEALTH INTERN

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3– the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people

ROLE PURPOSE:

The health project intern who will be based full time in Hargeisa and will have overall responsibility to contribute to the delivery of outreach Health, Health services in project area. S/he will fulfil the tasks outlined below in collaboration with the staff and management while ensuring community participation in the delivery of these services.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Dimensions: Save the Children operates across all zones in Somalia and Somaliland and currently has three main area offices and additional 11 field offices. Programmatically Somalia is a large Country Office with more than $110million annual budget and staff over 650 staff.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

·         Contribute to the planning and direction of SCIs Health activities in Maroodijeh districts with direct supervision of the health coordinator.

·         Work in collaboration with project assistant, Logistician and PO and PM

·         Provide technical support to all Health team members in project sites.

·         Contribute to plan and implement project Health programs in close collaboration with medical and non-medical personnel

·         Promote community participation in Health promotion activities

·         Provide on-job training for staff in primary health care

·         Contribute to that supplies needed by programs under his/her supervision are properly managed

·         Constantly monitor the Health needs in the project area and propose appropriate action in collaboration with project manager and Field manager

·         Participate in needs assessment to establish future Health programs

·         Together with POs represent SCI to village health committees, district management Board /council.

·         Participation in joint primary health care planning in collaboration with other NGOs and local health authorities.

·         Ensures good standards in the delivery of preventive and Health primitive services

·         Together with health assistant and health officer identify Community health Volunteers to disseminate health and Health information

·         Supervision and monitoring of Health activities and programmes both at facility and outreach levels

·         Identify staff training needs.

·         Carry out any other responsibilities assigned by the supervisors.
