Position Summary

We are looking for a Heavy Equipment and Hydraulic Mechanic to assist with preventative maintenance and repairs of diesel equipment in the field. You will travel to various job sites to make electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs on equipment such as excavators, loaders, and more. Incumbent should maintains heavy equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements, such as correcting vehicle deficiencies, making adjustments and alignments, and keeping records.

Functional Relationships: Site Engineers, Quantity Surveyor & Office & Logistics Assistant

Job Location: Hargeisa, Somaliland

Contract: Fixed Term (one year)

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Perform electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical repairs as well as preventative maintenance.

Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.

Maintain records of equipment repaired along with time spent on such equipment. Check bulldozers, cranes, and other heavy equipment for proper performance.

Inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions and diagnose to determine extent of repair required.

Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.

Maintain a schedule for preventative maintenance on all equipment providing for lubrication, replacement of tires and tune ups.

Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Perform layout work for fabrication of parts and equipment. Perform other related work as required.

Qualification Requirements

High school diploma or GED certificate.

Post-secondary certificate or degree in engineering OR training as a mechanic an asset. 2 to 5 years of experience with diesel/heavy equipment repair.

Welding experience an asset.

Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems.

Thorough knowledge of the construction, design, assembly and maintenance of a wide variety of special purpose heavy equipment.

Considerable knowledge of tools and equipment needed for the overhaul, repair and maintenance of heavy automotive equipment.

Considerable knowledge and a high degree of skill in diagnosis of trouble reported on the various pieces of equipment.

Ability to keep records of repairs, time and parts used for the servicing of heavy, special purpose automotive equipment, and to make related reports.

Skill in the use of instruments and tools employed in the checking and repair of motors and special equipment.

Excellent mechanical aptitude, coordination and dexterity. Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

with hands and arms and climb or balance.

Must be capable of heavy lifting and moving parts up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis. Must able to work on your feet (stand or walk) for entire assigned work shift.

Driving motor vehicles and heavy equipment is occasionally required. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate equipment.

Specific visual abilities required of this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
