SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia current works in three regions; Banadir Regions (Heliwa, Wadajir, Dharkenley and Dayninle districts) southwest-state (Baidoa and Hudur) Hirshabelle State (Jowhar & Balcad)

SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below position.

Job Title: ICT Intern (1 Position)

Location: Mogadishu

Job Summary:

The ICT Intern will provide direct technical assistance and support to SOS Somalia Children’s Villages staff for network, hardware and software issues. Duties include: Install and maintain computer systems including software and hardware on desktops and laptops, resolve internet and network access issues (both wired and wireless),Provide network printer support, meeting with staff to provide one-on-one technical assistance as needed/requested, Provide training to staff on software and hardware use, determine causes of computer/software/network malfunctions through evaluation and testing and resolution via modifications, repair, or external support assistance.

Reports to: ICT Manager

Key Area of responsibility:

Respond to user requests for service, troubleshoot problems and help develop solutions.

Provide end-user support for all workstations, laptop/desktop-based hardware, applications and services.

New user setup and orientation including installing and configuring workstations, software, network printing, etc.

Perform minor repairs to equipment and arrange for other servicing needs.

Identify and report system issues to vendors. Monitor and test resolution of those issues sent to vendors.

Support and implement planned technology upgrades.

Monitor antivirus software and updates and repair computers infected with spyware, adware and/or viruses.

Record activities, solutions and other responses to request for service.

Assist in maintaining inventory records and documentation for equipment.

Develop and provide user training for basic hardware and software use.

Maintains open communication and positive working relationship with staff.

Assist in troubleshooting various Office 365 issues including connectivity and mobility

Assist and Support in the roll-out of cloud-based applications and services

Perform other duties as tasked and deemed necessary for the overall delivery of the unit´s activities.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and abilities):

SOS Somalia Children’s Villages is looking for an ICT intern with exceptional customer service skills, solid troubleshooting skills, ability to work well in a team environment, excellent oral and written communications skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision. Applicants must have experience with Windows 10 in a technical support environment. Applicants must also have experience supporting recent versions of Microsoft Office Applications, including 2016 and 2019. Experience with networking technologies and printer support is preferred. Applicants must have awareness of the PC hardware components, desktop operating system software, and application software. Applicant must have awareness of the PC industry’s current and emerging technology trends and direction, as well as a keen interest in computer-based information systems and technology. Interested applicants should possess excellent analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems. Applicants should have the ability to research and understand technical documentation, and an understanding of how to apply various technical resources. Applicants should have the ability to perform tasks such as operating systems and application software installations and upgrades, as well as virus protection and eradication.

Requirements:

Diploma or BSc degree in Computer Sciences or related field

Minimum of six months paid or volunteer work experience with computer desktop support in a networked environment for a small to mid-sized organization.

A basic understanding of computer network cabling and network file and print services.

Ability to exercise good judgment and effectiveness in working with a high performing team

Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
