The Pharo Secondary School, Sheikh (formally known as SOS Hermann Gmeiner Sheikh Secondary School) is a boarding school located in the Sahil Region of Somaliland. The school is situated in the town of Sheikh between the port city of Berbera and Burcoa in the interior of Somaliland. It has a pleasant cool climate all year round due to its high altitude. The school is renowned for its academic excellence and secure and caring environment in which students of all abilities can experience success and achieve their full potential within a broad and balanced curriculum. The aim is to prepare students to become respectful contributing members of the communities in which they live. The school counts many prominent politicians and other key officials among its graduates.
The school has students from Form 1 to Form 4 with school facilities that consist of 10 classrooms, science laboratories, library, assembly and lecture halls, boys’ dormitories and girls’ hostel, dining hall and a clinic. The school is currently following the Edexcel International curriculum; London University based IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education), and the Somaliland National Curriculum.
With a modern campus, and with students from all over the country and all socio-economic backgrounds being represented, a dedicated team of teachers at the School seeks to rapidly accelerate student learning while building confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills. The school’s goal is to see each student pursue post-secondary education and become leaders and role models in their respective communities.
Position summary
Position: ICT Teacher
Location: Sheikh, Somaliland
Reporting to: Head Teacher
We are searching for an enthusiastic Computer Teacher to promote computer literacy among our students. In this position, you will be required to craft and present lessons, develop teaching material, and attend parent-teacher conferences. Computer Teachers should also ensure that equipment remains in excellent working condition.
To ensure success as a Computer Teacher, you should demonstrate flexibility and support as you help students to develop confidence in their computer skills. An outstanding Computer Teacher will be cognizant of the socioeconomic factors that limit access to technology, and will make a concerted effort to acclimatize students with no prior exposure to computers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and prepare lesson plans. scheme of work, and instructional materials. Assign, correct, grade, and give feedback on classwork, homework, and tests.
Track student progress by maintaining accurate, complete, and timely records of student grades.
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and student needs.
Attend and participate in department, school, and district meetings Maintain professionalism at all times.
Manage student behaviour in the classroom and common areas by enforcing school rules and procedures.
Support students in extra-curricular clubs and activities.
Assume responsibility for additional duties in the boarding school.
Assist in the school’s involvement in supporting the Sheikh community.
Assist in monitoring the student boarding section of the school.
Prepare and guide students in career development and post-secondary education. Additional duties and responsibilities assigned by the line manager.
Qualification Requirements:
BS or MS in ICT or related fields
At least 5 years of experience in teaching ICT in both edexcel O-level and A-level syllabus. Have experience in repairing and maintaining computers and computer network.
Passion for subject matter and teaching, with a commitment to student success.
Capable of developing and presenting appropriate, creative, and adaptable curriculum. Strong classroom management skills.
Excellent English fluency both verbal and written. Energetic, with a strong work ethic.
Of good moral character: honest, trustworthy, and dependable.
Must be willing to teach in Sheikh.
Familiarity with computers and other school technologies.
