The implementation of the program and the development of the pipeline have resulted in a significant amount of work. The Government and UNDP would increase efforts and put in place the appropriate means to achieve the assigned programmatic objectives. With this in mind, there is a time to strengthen the program team and especially the Environment and Change component. The goal of reinforcement that materializes by the recruitment of an intern for Environment and Climate Change.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist of climate change and environment, the main task of the is to manage ongoing projects in the environment and climate change portfolio in a rigorous and transparent manner.

Provide graduate students with an exposure to the working environment of a multilateral organization and a better understanding of UNDP Djibouti’s goals and activities.

Functions/Duties and Output Expectations

Under the direct supervision of the Programme specialist, the intern is expected to perform the following tasks:

1. Provides effective support to management programme focusing on the achievement of the following results:

• Coordinate project implementation to the executing agencies on routine implementation of projects;
• Ensure effective communication and coordination between the Project offices and the UNDP Country office in Djibouti;
• Ensure a good follow-up of the project’s delivery according to the activities and expected results;
• Support the implementation,
• Establish and maintain relationships and act as the key focal point with project coordinators to ensure that all programming, financial and administrative matters related to the Project are effectively managed;
• Preparation and support the team for the annual Reports (ROAR, QA) and project reports;
• Participate in supervision missions as part of projects.

1. Provides administrative/finance support to the Programme Units focusing on achievement of the following results:

• Monitor and facilitate payments of UNDP projects with the Project Unit;
• Prepare consultant payments and facilitate travel and accommodation needs of consultants and other staff hired by UNDP;
• Assist international and national consultants and others on all aspects of allowances, travel claims;
• Assist in organisation of national and international workshops, seminars, visiting missions, field trips;
• Coordinating meeting calendars and arranging appointments and meetings;
• Drafting Notes of record, meeting reports, agendas, presentations hand-outs, as required;
• Maintain administrative/financial files and programme documentation;
• Initiate the prepare and follow up on IC- contract;
• Assist in organisation of national workshops, seminars, field trips;
• Coordinating meeting calendars and arranging appointments and meetings
• Assist international and national consultants and others on all aspects of allowances, travel claims;
• Perform other duties that may be required by UNDP Programme specialist and Senior Management.

1. Policy and projects formulation support focusing on achievement of the following results:

• Analysis of information on donors, preparation of donor’s profile;
• Support to resource mobilization;
• Collection, analysis and presentation of information for identification of areas for support; and project formulation.

3. Attention to details and proven ability to work independently and effectively with minimum supervision;
4. Networking skills to engage with key internal and external partners;

Eligibility and skills

Eligibility:

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);

(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);

(c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;

(d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Education:

Master’s degree in the field of environmental sciences and management.

Interns’ Expenses/Arrangements:

1. Interns may be given a stipend under conditions prescribed in the section on stipends, below. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, passports, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of: (a) The nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or (b) The intern.
2. Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNDP and must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to starting the internship. UNDP will not reimburse the medical insurance of the intern. Any costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern.
3. Selected candidates for internships must show proof of valid medical insurance for the duty station in which they will intern. Applicants that are neither nationals nor residents of the duty station, the insurance must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the internship duration which: (a) Requires transportation to the home country or country of residence for further treatment; (b) Results in death and requires preparation and return of the remains to the home country, or country of residence.

UNDP accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to personal effects that may occur during the internship.

Subsequent Employment:

The purpose of the Internship Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship

Before being offered a Letter of Acceptance for Internship, the selected candidate will have to provide the following additional documents:

A Medical Certificate of Good Health from a recognized physician. If the intern is expected to travel outside the country of their residence, other than to Europe and North America, the physician must indicate whether s/he is for to travel and has the required inoculations for the country to which they are to travel;

Proof of both Medical and Life Insurance cover valid for the duration of the internship programme.
