IT/Database Assistant – Mogadishu, Somalia
Project Background:
The USAID/Somalia Market-Based Resilience for Marginalized Populations (MB-RMP) activity will work with the Somali government and people to ensure drought resistant agriculture and livelihood diversification for rural and urban households, as well as robust private sector engagement for inclusive economic opportunities for marginalized groups. More specifically, MB-RMP will provide targeted technical support and capacity building to strengthen resilience to climatic shocks for agriculture systems, increase the capacity of the private sector to include urban migrants and displaced persons, and increase marginalized households’/businesses’ access to finance and domestic remittances.
Position Summary:
The IT/Database Assistant supports MB-RMP daily IT/Database needs in the Mogadishu Office. The I/DA will ensure that all database management and reporting data and information is captured and properly maintained in the DT Global Online (DTGO) program database. The I/DA will also provide oversight of the projects ICT infrastructure and equipment to ensure continuity of work in a data secure environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
IT and Database Support
In close coordination with the Grants and Compliance manager, provide day to day support in the management of the DT Global Online (DTGO) database for the MB-RMP project, ensuring that all activity files are updated and compliant to DT Global and USAID standards.
Installs and configures computer hardware, software, systems, networks, printers, and scanners. When necessary, work with HQ IT team to provide first line assistance to staff on all IT related
bottlenecks.
Reviews vendor contracts and coordinates IT purchases (hardware, software, and services) to ensure effective deployment of solutions aligned with user needs.
Provide regular updates and ensure proper information entry in DTGO.
Train staff on tools available within the database to support project management and reporting. In coordination with the program and operation staff, support data management and quarterly
filing audits for DT Global Online database, helping ensure activity files are well drafted and in good order; and all financial and program data is entered into each activity file in an accurate and timely manner.
Develop data collection and storage procedures for monitoring deliverables.
Skills and Qualifications
Education and certifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
Key Position Competencies and Experience:
Minimum five (3) years of experience as database administrator
Demonstrated database management experience, preferably for a USAID-funded program. Strong management and administrative skills.
Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills. Highly organized and responsible.
Capable of working under pressure.
Up-to-date with trends and developments in database administration. Ability/willingness to travel to Somalia on a regular basis.
Ability to work in a professional and cordial manner with fellow staff members, visitors, and partner institutions including international and local NGOs, governmental entities, support organizations, and the general public.
Ability to effectively use computer software including MS Word and Excel. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Fluent written and spoken English required.
