Reports to: Lab Coordinator

Job summary:
As the Lab Technician for MC Mogadishu, you are expected to be able to perform all laboratory Diagnosis Tests independently, manage laboratory services and ensure internal and external laboratory quality control. The employee will work under the guidance of the Laboratory coordinator and he. will also provide assistance to the doctor and the other medical care team where appropriate, recognizing that the effective management of hospital depends on effective communication and participation of all members of the team
Job responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of technical laboratory procedures according to Medical Center, laboratory and national standards to obtain patient specimens using to ensure specimen quality used to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Carrying out operation and first level maintenance of laboratory equipment for ensuring their proper operation.
- Carry out process control of the drinking water and waste water treatment
- Provide monitoring and quality control for disposal of hazardous materials and liquid waste in an acceptable environment standard.
- Prepare annually laboratory equipment and chemical requirement for acquisition planning and replenishment
- Receiving, labeling and safely storing samples to be tested
- Determining and performing tests needed for the analysis and report
- Recording tests and analyses and then reporting the results
- Discussing and answering any questions regarding the results
- Organizing and storing samples in accordance with all safety and other requirements to ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of the sample
- Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment, including recalibration of equipment
- Maintaining equipment records and daily work logs
- Staying current on technical and scientific advances in their field
- Perform routine and non-routine tests and analyses using the appropriate technical equipment and instruments
- Receive or collect, as well as process samples
- Calculate test results, log and report results using a computer
- Prepare and supervise experiments
- Perform quality control and calibrate equipment if necessary
- Maintain equipment in proper working order and maintain a clean working area
- Practice safe work habits including complying with all safety, health, environmental rules and regulations
- Any other duties as directed by the supervisor or the Program/Medical doctor
Job competencies:
- Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory sciences
- At least 2 years Laboratory experience
- Excellent command in Somali/English languages
- Computer skills (MS word, excel, internet)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Understanding local contexts and dialogues is additional value.
