Purpose of the internship

The Health Section seeks a paid intern for a period of six months to support the Maternal, New-born and Child health (MNCH) and Health Emergencies. The intern will be under the supervision of the Child Health Officer with technical support from the MNCH and Health Emergency Specialist.

The intern will gain practical knowledge of UNICEF’s programming priorities for maternal, newborn and child health, organizational working environment, and mandate of UNICEF. The intern will be involved in the managing, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reporting of the health (gender, maternal, neonatal, child survival/development) program/s within the country program.

How can you make a difference?

Main Tasks and responsibilities

  • Maintain up to date program action tracker for the MNCH and health emergency team.
  • Document internal and external meetings and ensure proper record keeping.
  • Monitor the MNCH supplies in the warehouse and prepare distribution plans for MNCH and emergency supplies including the COVID-19 supplies when required.
  • Monitor the online reporting platforms such as the e-tools to ensure the implementing partners have timely submitted their partnership reports.
  • Review progress reports from the implementing partners
  • Perform any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

 A female in possession of a first-level University Degree  enrolled in a degree programme in public health/nutrition, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, epidemiology, or any other related field.

  • Fluency in English and Somali, both written and oral, is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications; excellent knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is desirable.
  • The successful candidate must have a functional computer and good internet access.

Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office plus no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
