MCH NURSES – MOGADISHU
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the following position:

Contract Details: 6 months with possibility of extension
Job Purpose: This is an emergency position to support scale up of health services within Concern’s nutrition programme in Mogadishu. The MCH Nurse is responsible for assessing, admitting, treating and following up the individual children (BOTH UNDER AND OVER 5yrs) and women assisted in assigned MCH centre(s). S/He will provide Medical and Nutrition treatment, counselling, defaulter tracing, home visits, SC follow-ups etc and collect weekly and monthly reports and tally sheets.
S/he will be responsible for keeping account of all the medicines and other supplies in the centre and keeping up to date records, requesting more when needed, ahead of time. The MCH Nurse is responsible for thoroughly and carefully assessing the children and women presenting at the centre, completing OPD/ANC/PNC cards fully and accurately, and clearly recording all information relevant to that person on the cards. S/he will also refer caregivers to IYCF counsellors or support groups when needed, and refer children to SC or hospital immediately when required.
He/she will work with the CHW and the community at the respective MCHs, mentoring them and providing them with On Job training to ensure there is consistent high-quality preventive and curative care for mothers, children and adultsThe MCH Nurse will participate in any exercises organised together data at household, community/camp and district level, and work closely with others in the team at all times. These positions are temporary in response to the current drought situation and extending beyond 6 months will depend on funding viability and performance.
Main duties & Responsibilities:
Programme implementation
• Support the management and running of MCH as per agreed protocol
• Become familiar with and adhere to standard protocols such as STG, IMAM and IMCI to ensure that all admissions, home visit, referral and discharge protocols for and other services offered at health facility
• Carefully and thoroughly assess each child and women at check-ups, and record all information clearly and accurately on the Patients cards.
• Administer drugs to under and over 5yrs children and women in line with agreed protocols, and keep records of all supplies used.
• Immediately refer any complicated child/women who need hospitalization to hospital and fill out the referral forms correctly. Either accompany the child/women to hospital personally, or ensure that another staff or CHWs/CHP member accompanies them.
• Refer absent and defaulting children/women to the CHWs/CHPs for follow up (home visit) and record details of the home visit and outcomes on the OPD, ANC/PNC cards accordingly.
• Support and guide the Community Health Promoters(s) in allocated centres with all outreach, follow-up, counselling and data collection responsibilities in collaborations with Community Mobilization Officer.
• Carry out OPD, EPI and other training for CHWs/CHPs, and participate in recruitment of new CHWs/CHPs if/as necessary.
• With support from the IYCF Officer(s), carry out IYCF counselling through one-to-one and support group sessions, and support CHWs to do the same.
• Alert the MCH supervisor to any increase in incidence of communicable diseases such as measles, polio, AWD/cholera or others either in the centre or in the communities.
• Participate in any campaigns such as de-worming, hygiene promotion, etc as required.
• Produce and agree weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans with the MCH Supervisor and Programme Coordinator.
• Work closely with the Community Mobilization Officer in the preparation of work plans for the CHWs/CHPs
• Participate in team meetings and other meetings/trainings as requested.
• Carry out other activities as agreed with the MCH Supervisor and PC.
• Assist as required within the OTP service and carry out all required duties there.
Monitoring and Reporting
· Compile and submit weekly and monthly tally sheets (admission/discharge numbers, stock usage, case finding, counselling, and others) to the MCH Supervisor in the required formats and in a timely manner.
· Keep and submit stock records for medicines and other supplies in a timely manner.
· Participate in nutrition assessments, surveys, surveillance, program reviews and other monitoring activities as required
· Contribute to the preparation and collection of case studies to demonstrate programme impact, if requested
· Undertake regular visits to the communities to support & work with CHWs/CHPs, monitor very sick children who refuse transfer to hospital, and report back with findings/recommendations
Others
· If the situation permits and Concern decides to open MCHs in other parts of Somalia, travel to these locations may also be required
· Provide cover in other CWW health facilities as necessary
· Other tasks as may reasonably be requested by the Programme Coordinator
Accountability
· In line with Concern’s commitments under the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS):
· actively promote meaningful community participation and consultation at all stages of the project cycle (planning, implementation, M&E);
· work with relevant colleagues to ensure that the Complaints and Response Mechanism (CRM) is functional and accessible, that feedback and complaints are welcomed and addressed;
· Work with relevant colleagues to ensure that information about CRM, safeguarding and expected staff behaviour is disseminated among programme participants and communities.

Skills and Qualifications
Education
• Diploma/ Bachelor of Nurse or Nutrition from recognized institution.
• Additional training on treatment of severe acute malnutrition, health/hygiene promotion, IYCF and/or communicable disease management is desirable.
• Training on EPHS guideline/protocols
Experience and Skills Essential
• At least two years’ experience of health & nutrition-related humanitarian/development programme implementation
• Experience of implementing emergency nutrition approaches including CMAM, and familiarity with protocols
• Knowledge of and/or interest in IYCF/behaviour change/education interventions and counselling
• Experience of working in complex, insecure environments
• Fluent spoken and written Somali
• High level of spoken and written English

• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability and willingness to interact successfully and respectfully with people at all levels and backgrounds
• Ability to work under pressure and without constant supervision.
• Flexibility and ability to carry out additional duties and tasks as required and adapt to a changing operational environment
