Role Dimensions:

Save the Children operates across all zones in Somalia and currently has three main area offices and additional 11 field offices. Programmatically Somalia is a large Country Office with more than $110million annual budget and staff over 650 staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

To contribute to Save the Children’s capacity to meet its Drought Resilience and Sustainable Livelihoods Program (DRSLP).  The National Project Coordinator is overall responsible for the day to day implementation of DRSLP program implementation. The National Project Coordinator will work closely with the Project Director, Area management and support staff (including finance, HR, Supplies Chain and program) to ensure the day-to-day activities are implemented according to schedule, budget and required quality. The National Project Coordinator reports directly to the Project Director. The National Project Coordinator will assist the Project Director in outlining a strategic plan for the implementation of this program including identifying target areas/projects, methods of operation for effective programming and maximum results

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

• At least of 7 years in the field of rural and/or community development, including at least 4 years of demonstrable experience in project management and community-based participation in conservation projects and, preferably, experience of working in resilience and livelihoods projects;
• Master’s degree in project development, business admin, communications or any other related field.
• Strong writing skills, ability to consolidate information and write concise reports including extensive experience providing information and data dissemination, marketing, community development educational training, videography, outreach skills monitoring and evaluation, and other aspects of effective information gathering
• Proven ability to write clear, well-argued project/donor reports
• Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills and ability to facilitate teamwork
• Strong communications skills and ability to build partnerships.
• Ability to prioritise, delegate and meet agreed deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a complex and rapidly changing environment; excellent interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently, delivering high quality outputs in a timely and cost-effective manner
• Proven experience with relationship building/stakeholder relationship management/team building skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with experience working in multicultural, multi-location, values driven teams;
• Fluency in English, both verbal and written, required. Fluency in Somali also required.
• Excellent computer skills, including competence in word processing and internet/e-mail including use of professional office software packages (Microsoft Office);
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively to project operated areas including remote and rural areas.
  Experience of and ability to represent SC work in external meetings.
• Experience of community mobilisations, distributions and hygiene promotion
• Ability to work hands on implementation capacity
• The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible, and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
