Job Description

SOS CVI is a Global Federation of National and Member Associations working in 137 countries and territories with focus to provide alternative care for children who have lost parental care, or at risk of losing. SOS-Kinderdorf International, also known as “SOS Children’s Villages International” is an association duly established under the laws of Austria, registered under the Austrian register of associations with registration number (ZVR-Zahl) 083115702, with its registered office at Hermann-Gmeiner-Straße 51, 6020 Innsbruck, Austria.
SOS Children’s Villages in Somalia is a Member Association of the Global Federation which has officially been working in Somalia since 1984. the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children in Somalia. SOS Children’s Villages in Somalia current works in three federal states and the capital city; Banadir Regions (Heliwa, Garasbaley,Kahda, Dharkenley and Daynile districts) southwest-state (Bay and Bakool regions) Hirshabelle State (Middle-Shabelle region). SOS has a zero-tolerance policy on child safeguarding and prevention of sexual harassment and exploitation at work place.
Job summary:
Demonstrate and teach patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of both teaching and research. Also, the employee should prepare and deliver lectures to nursing students on topics related to nursing studies.
Job responsibilities:
- A tutor’s main job responsibility is to assist students academically in whichever subject(s) the students are seeking improvement. This may be difficult at first because not everyone learns the same way, so before a tutor can assist, he should get to know his students a little.
- Assess clinical education needs and patient and client teaching needs, utilizing a variety of methods
- After tutoring for a while, some tutors will go back and evaluate students’ progress in order to see where improvements can be made. The tutor may evaluate her teaching skills to make sure her students are receiving enough attention and assistance.
- Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.
- Evaluate and grade students’ class work, laboratory and clinic work, assignments, and papers.
- A tutor should always try to motivate his students and provide them with confidence. Students need to have positive attitudes to feel successful and get work done, so if you only provide them with negative feedback, they may not have a good tutoring experience.
- Tutors don’t just teach; they help students develop study skills specifically tailored to her students’ needs for when there isn’t someone around to help them out.
- Keep abreast of developments in their field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
- Conduct research in a particular field of knowledge, and publish findings in professional journals, books, and/or electronic media.
- Plan, evaluate and revise curricula, course content and course materials and methods of instruction
- Demonstrate developing leadership skills in the context of health and education
- Advise students on academic and clinical/practical curricula and on career issues
- Act as advisers to student organizations matters and academic issues
- Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
- Supervise undergraduate and/or graduate teaching, internship, and research work.
- Supervise students’ laboratory and clinical work
- Participate in student recruitment, registration, and placement activities.
- Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental
- Demonstrate patient care in clinical units of hospital
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts
- Initiate, facilitate and moderate classroom discussions
- Prepare and deliver lectures to students on topics such as pharmacology, mental health nursing and community health care practices
- Select and obtain materials and supplies such as textbooks and laboratory equipment.
- Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues
- To work with senior teaching staff so as to develop their supervision, training and management skills
- To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.
Skills and Qualifications
Job competencies:
- Must have 6 years of teaching experiences in health sectors in university or other public tertiary education institutions.
- Be a holder of bachelor degree in Nursing/Midwifery with Master’s degree in Nursing/Midwifery or public health
- Have a good performance & positive attitude portfolio at SOS Community Nursing School
- Have good communication, mentoring, coaching & presentation skills.
- Observe confidentiality and privacy.
- Be proficient in in written & spoken English.
- Have a ToT/ToF training certificate.
- Be a good team player.
- Report writing skills
- Counseling skills
- Computer application skills
- Persuasion and negotiation skills
