They also assist internally displaced women and girls by providing access to safe spaces and case management.

Position Overview

Mustaqbal Development and Relief Organization (MUDRO) is seeking a dedicated Project Nutrition Assistant to support the implementation of life-saving nutrition programs in Dinsoor District, South-West Somalia. Under the supervision of the Nutrition Officer, this field-based role will play a vital part in delivering targeted nutrition services aimed at reducing malnutrition and improving health outcomes for the most vulnerable.

The successful candidate will work closely with Nutrition Officer, health facilities, outreach teams, and community members to facilitate nutrition interventions including:

  • Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) education and support.

  • Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) programs.

  • Nutrition screening and referral using Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tools.

Awareness and capacity-building sessions for:

  • Pregnant and lactating women (PLW)

  • Children under 5 years

  • Caregivers and community health volunteers

Key Responsibilities

1. Program Implementation

  • Assist in executing nutrition interventions, including Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM).

  • Facilitate logistics and preparation for nutrition-related activities at health facilities and community outreach points.

  • Distribute nutrition supplies and manage records under the supervision of the Nutrition Officer.

2. Community Mobilization and Education

  • Engage with community members to promote nutrition awareness, particularly for pregnant and lactating women and children under five.

  • Conduct nutrition education sessions to empower communities with knowledge.

  • Collaborate with community health workers and volunteers to enhance participation and gather feedback.

3. Monitoring and Data Collection

  • Support data collection using Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) and registers and screening forms.

  • Ensure accurate recording of participant data and activity tracking.

  • Promptly report any challenges or issues observed in the field to the Nutrition Officer.

4. Coordination and Reporting

  • Actively participate in team meetings and training sessions.

  • Provide daily and weekly activity updates to the Nutrition Officer.

  • Maintain organized documentation of activities and community engagement.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Nutrition, Community Health, or a related field (a bachelor’s degree is an advantage).

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant field experience in humanitarian or development contexts.

  • Familiarity with basic nutrition practices (IYCF, CMAM) is preferred.

  • Proficiency in English and Somali is required.
