Health Poverty Action (HPA) is an international NGO has been working in Somaliland since last 20 years. HPA works to strengthen poor and marginalized people in their struggle for health. Through our work, we address the full range of factors that impact on health as well as strengthening health services on areas such as disease treatment, nutrition, water, sanitation, immunisation, income generation and women’s empowerment.

Skills and Qualifications

Health Poverty Action is seeking to recruit a competent and qualified person for the position Nutrition Supervisor based in Buroa  Somaliland. The person specifications and qualifications are given below:

PERSON SPECIFICATIONEssential requirements

  • At least two years’ experience of direct supervision of nutrition projects for Government or international NGOs.
  • Obtains information about major community nutritional issues, that effect the children and families served, through the interviews and discussion with Caregivers at the Centre. Provide recommendations to the project to plan remedies to identified problems.
  • Prepare and conduct education classrooms to Caregivers on family health, nutrition, sanitation, hygiene, family counselling, and ensure that foods (nutrition) are an integral part of the total education program for Caregivers
  • In coordination with the Project Officer, plan and supervise regularly the nutrition activities conducted at both fixed and outreach sites and according to SPHERE standards and National guidelines.
  • Identify MCH staff training needs in the program and organize staff training on appropriate nutrition training and capacity developments: IMAM, CMAM, IYCF, NHHP etc.
  • Be able to determine the cause of the malnutrition and formulate appropriate responses that will address the cause.
  • Be able to assess the immediate lifesaving nutrition interventions needed.
  • Experience of planning, implementing and monitoring of OTP, TSFP, MCHN, IYCF, SC and Nutrition Health & Hygiene Promotion at both facility and community levels.
  • Experience in managing outreach and mobile teams for nutrition and health activities
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills including supporting nutrition officer during the monthly report preparation.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc)
  • Fluent oral and written Somali and English
  • Bachelors degree in Nutrition, health or other related subjects
  • Knowledge of Marodijeh region.

Desirable requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of Somaliland health systems
  • Experience of working in an international setting
  • Experience of working within the health sector
  • Willingness to travel to the field and to work additional hours as required
