Optical Transmission Engineer (Site Engineer) – Hargeisa, Somaliland

National Fiber Optic Company (NFOC) is reasonably formulated company to own, manage and operate the National Fiber Backbone Network connecting major cities of Somaliland Republic. The backbone covers more than 1,200KM stretching from Djibouti Port City all the way to the main urban areas of Somaliland and Metro Fiber Network, which will cover the following services:

• Managing and operating Backbone Fiber infrastructure.
• Managing and operating the terrestrial and metropolitan cables.

Position Title: Optical Transmission Engineer (Site Engineer).

Company: National Fiber Optic Company (NFOC)

Reports to: Optical Transmission Manager

Contract type: permanent.

Salary/benefits: According to NFOC’s salary scale and terms and conditions

Duty station: Hargeisa.

Travel: 70%.

Responsibilities:

• Perform Routine inspection, and system diagnosis for the live network.
• Perform DWDM, Optical measurement and evaluates data.

• Optical Network Capacity Utilization, expansion & optimization

• Designing & Evaluating the Optical Link Budget.
• Monitoring DWDM system.
• Critical Analysis and Locating failure points and suggest best solutions.

• Attending all planned activities at any time pertaining services such as migration, testing, Commissioning, upgrading, downgrading, planned troubleshooting of services.

• Responsible for implementing patch cord management.
• Stock and Inventory Management. {Patch cords – DWDM Cards- Shelf’s etc.}

• Preparing Daily and Weekly Reports with respect to bandwidth utilization, port utilization, requests provisioned, network statistics and any other reports.

• Generating incident report Managements.

• Skills:

• Optical networking knowledge including but not limited to CWDM/DWDM/OTN, MPLS-TP, technologies
• Good understanding of transmission network environment
• Knowledge about network equipment and IP Technologies

• Deep understanding fiber optic technology.
• Work cross-functionally and cross-regionally with other optical and network operational support teams.
• High competence in Excel, Word, PowerPoint & MS project

• Ability to work independently or as part of a team effectively with flexible hours
• Strong analytical and organizational skills are necessary
• A sense of urgency and a commitment to timely completion of projects. Attention to detail along with a commitment to quality and confidentiality

Qualifications:        

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in the field such as Telecommunications Engineering and related fields.
• Professional certificates related to fiber optic technology and network.
• 2+ years’ Experience will be preferred
